LOCAL AND GENERAL. gag- The progress of the funeral cortege vitb the remains of the late President LINCOLN, is irked with the same demonstrations of popular '.'jief as given ot the outset Indeed the populur f cling seems to deepen as the mournful cortege lH ,roaches the home of the late President. The time of the ceremonies at Springfield has been for to-day, (Thursday.) TUN MKETIXU MONDAY EVENING.—A RE nbliean Mass Convention assembled at the Court j House on Monday evening, agreeably with previ- : notice, and was organized by electing EM AN- j i'F.L GI'YER chairman, and E. B. COOLBAITGH and J J. p. KI CK. Secretaries. (in motion, five conferees were appointed to con- j ! with conferees from Sullivan County, for the J purpose of choosing Representative Delegates to | the State Convention. tin motion, these conferees were instructed to j .upport JOHN H. GRANT and S. W. AT.VORD, for j -aid Delegates. (in motion. E. B. PARSONS was recommended ! tor Senatorial Delegate. \fttT the appointment of a Committee on Reso- j Intions, the Hon. G. A. GROW, being loudly called : lor, was introduced to the audience and delivered j ~ne of the most eloquent and patriotic addresses it has ever been our pleasure to listen to. He was ! followed by the Hon. GEO. LANDON, who confined himself mostly to the life and character of our la mented LINCOLN. Judge MKBCUR was then called ! : r. and although the evening was far spent, was j listened to with profound attention. In conclusion, Messrs. TOWNER mid BLISS, were ! introduced, and sang a patriotic song, which was loudly applauded by the audience. EIUTOR REPORTER ;—I would be glad to hear through the columns of your paper, your Million in regard to our duty as a christian coni , .aity, to those vile wretches, wearing the garb of m , n, yet so devoid of all decency, morality and | .respect, as to rejoice at the death of the Presi dent. We have in our vicinity, and I fear such are to be found all through our country, characters, 1 ~utl some of them following a profession and look- i hiy to community for support and patronage, who i re guilty of expressions like the following : "Well nl 1 Lincoln is dead, and I'm glad of it ; he ought J t, have been dead long ago." The same inter-; ,ii. r-ied with oatlis too horrible to mention if uttered ut'ue death of a dumb brute, and much less when ( ntti red in regard to one of tlie best and purest 1 iii. n that ever lived. Now the question with me is. and I consider it of importance, shodUl such persons receive the support and patronage of a christian community? I for one, although I differ i with some of my good pious neighbors, think they j .should not, and I go further, I think that they j - ; uld not even be treated with common civility until they have thoroughly reformed both in word ami in deed. [We hardly feel competent to give the advice our j correspondent asks for. We do not approve of lynch law, nor unlawful violence, but we notice that throughout the country swift punishment has overtaken the wretches who have outraged the feel ings of communities by untimely exhibitions of i jov amidst the general grief, and we notice also j that such deuomstrations are received by the eouu- j try with satisfaction, and the popular verdict is "served bun right."] Igu At the call of the Canton Baptist Church, Bradford County, Pa., a council convened iti their house of worship on Wednesday, April 19, 1865, for the purpose of examining Mr. EGGLESTON 1 BCUROVOHS ; and if found qualified, to set him , apart to the work of the gospel ministry by ordina- I tion. The council was organized by choosing Rev. j J. B. LAKE moderator, and Rev. J. EVANS BITTINY clerk. The examination proving satisfactory, the conn- | ,:! proceeded to ordination. " v The deceased was an old citizen in the County of Bradford, having removed from the State of New York at the age of 21 years. He settled at | Athens, where he resided for some twenty-five ! years, during which time his business relations | gained for him a general and favorable acquaint ance throughout that section of the country, as an honest and kind-hearted man and highly esteemed by all who knew him. A generous friend to the poor, and one whose attention and means were ever at the disposal of the needy, at all times and tinder all circumstances. Mr. BRIGOS, soon after leaving Athens, settled in Towanda, where he remained for a number of years, when he followed some of his children to Illinois, and located at Belvidere for a time, when feeling more at home among his old Bradford friends, he returned to spend his days among them. He enjoyed good health until a few before his decease, and his last hours found him rational and with much earnestness and confidence he con versed with his children and friends in view of his approaching dissolution, being anxious, happy and fully resigned for the messenger of Death, which ho met with the fortitude of a true christian. His death has left children and friends to mourn the loss of one beloved and esteemed as the kind and affectionate parent, a good neighbor and re spected citizen. Of the name and memory of the deceased, no one is left to speak but in words of friendship and respect. COM. Xctu vlliocrtiscinents. It is an established fact that a large proportion of the Garden Seeds sold in the country are worthless or nearly so. The reason is obvious. Seeds are left by the owners with merchants to sell on commission, often but a small portion of them are sold, the remainder being returned, repacked aud sent out again the following year, and so continuing until as a matter of course many of the seeds are worthless. In order to get the best and most reli able seeds I have bought a large stock of Roliert Buis:.of Philadelphia, a bouse whose reputation for selling fresh and pure seeds is not surpassed by any in the country ; and who never send out any seeds on commission, and consequently not liable to accumulate old stock. I think a little reflection will convince any one of the advantage of purchasing these seeds. I have many var ieties not to be found any where els ein town.
