IMPORTANT TO THE SICK AND AFFLICTED. — Dr.
J. M. STEWART will lie at the AVard House, Feb. Is.
and will stay until Feb. 21th. 18155. for the purpose
of healing the siek and afflicted. No medicine
gixen. No Surgical operations performed. From
five to thirty minutes are required for the most in
veterate eases of almost any kind of Chronic dis
eases. The siek poor are invited to call upon Dr.
STEWART and he will treat them gratuitously, lit
does not want any one to suffer in health because
they are not rich in this world's goods.
feaT'A class lias been organized in our
borough for instruction and drill in what is called
! "The Light and Parlor Gymnastics." This sys
tem has been brought to great perfection by Dr.
DlO LEWIS, of Boston, and we have the happiness
of having one of his pupils us the teacher of the
clas... These exercises have received the sanction
and approval of the most eminent ph\ sicians ; and
the slightest insight cannot fail to convince the
most skeptical, of their great value in giving
1 strength and symmetry to the physical frame.
To invalids, with judicious care this drill must
be-imalnable. In fact, we really believe that one
half the diseases on the physician's list would he
avoided if timely attention were paid to this sub
ject by those who fti'e growing np. "An ounce of
preventative is worth a pound of cure."
It is, however, 111 it a nitre child's play. There
is scarcely one in ten of our men and women, how
ever active their pursuits, that wiuld not be In n
-1 fitted by such a drill. Some take a good deal of
exercise, hut the exercise is all tending to the de
velopment of one set of muscles at the expense of
all otln-rs. The dcvtlopi iiunt is abnormal, defec
tive, distorted, unseemly, a fact which is quite ap
parant to the most casual observer.
For more reasons than the above, we think that
those who value health and strength, are not wist
unless they avail themselves of the opportunity
now offered by M:.-s CAILIFE s class. Miss CAILIEJ
brings with her the highest testimonials as to her
qualifications for the work. Those who have en
joyed the privilege of her instructions would do her
injustice if they did not cheerfully commend In r
to public patronage, as a judicious, accomplished,
and skillful teacher. We understand that a m v
term is about to open. We predict abundant suc
cess. The system has only to be well understood
to be received everywhere.

BeaHF Quite a busy time occurred at the
Eye and Far Institute yesterday. Four blind per
sons were restored to sight, two of them being op
erated upon for cataract, and two for artificial pu
pil. 111 tlie afternoon two operations were per
formed for I,<ir!,ri/tn'il Fistula, the operation con
sisting in inserting silver tubes through which the
tears are convey, d from the eye into the nose, the
natural channel having been obstructed through
disease. One of our citizens also underwent an
operation for Strtthi.iMas, or crpss eye. We found
the Institute crowded with patients, several of
whom have come from the Western States to avail
themselves of the services of Dr. Ur l)r. GRAI F.
The doctor is doing a vast deal of good in our
community among the poor, all indigent persons
being treated gratuitously. We know of no Insti
