THE LADY'S FRIEND.— -We think we have
' seldom seen a more touehiugly beautiful engraving
than that which embellishes the February number
of this magazine. It is called "THE PRISONER'S
I CHILD, " and is a story in itself. The face of the
I girl is full of an indescribable sadness, and as she
feeds the birds outside the prison bars, we long to
speak some words of pity and comfort to her. The
: Double Steel Fashion Plate for this month is a
very handsome one, both in design and execution ;
the contrast between the colors is especially fine.
The other fashions and engravings of fancy-work
I are as usual varied and well executed.

We recognize in the following ac
count of an attempted burglary, taken from the
Luke SUPERIOR Miner, some well-known names of
former residents <JF this county :
DARING BURGLARY.—One of the boldest eases of
burglary and attempt at robbery that has ever oc
curred in our County, took place last Sabbath liiglit
in Greenland.
The new store of G. N. CASH A Co., was broken
into by PETER PORQUETTK. and some of liis com
rades, about 2 o'clock in the morning. The front 1
door was opened by removing a pane of glass
, therefrom and then springing the fastnings. The
noise awoke Air. ('. who with his clerk (ELDBIDGE
SMITH,) lodges in rooms over the store. He
went noiselessly down stairs, with a loaded shot
, gun in his hand, but before he reached the room,
one, perhaps more of the robbers, took the alarm '
and cleared, and CASH after them. As he reached
the door, another seized him front behind; prob
ably intending to thrust him aside and follow his
companions in crime. CASH grappled with him and
floored him, but unfortunately got his thumb nail
bitten off' in the melee. Giving the lark a lew
solid chugs in the face with the butt of his gun, !
lie "wilted"' until with the aid of SMITH and some
thongs, Jie was secured from further offensive dem-
I onstrations.
On Monday morning he was taken before Esq.
TIDD, who found him guilt}- of the offenses above ,
described and by whom lie was bound over for his
appearance at the June term of the Circuit Court.
