I®* ANOTHER SOLDIER GONE. —A letter
dated " Camp near Newbern, N. 0., January 19." has the
>ad intelligence of the death of WILSON D. GILLETT,
cf Typhoid fever, In the ¥4i.h Veftv of his a£e. The letter
•ays: " WILSON wa. a son. of LF.TVIS B. GILLETT, of She
•hequin, and was, at the time cf bis death-, a Corporal in
Capt. U. E. HORTON s Ccmoaffy Of l"lst regiment Penn
sylvania Militia. He died in the service Of bis country,
and gave his life as asacrifl.ee to tts cause, as really as if
he had fallen on the battle field. When he drafted
his father offered him money to hire a. substitute, but his
patriotism and unselfish nature prompted him to refuse
the offer, for. as he said in conversation with the writer
while at Suffolk, lie did not wish another to die for Lim.
But alas I little did he think that Death was so soon to
mark him as his own. Though scarcely threejmonths had
passed since we first made his acquaintance as a feliow
snldier, he had won the friendship and esteem of the
"hole company, by his honest and upright course. He
shunned the society of the vicious and kept himself aloof
from the vices so prevalent in camp. He yielded willing
ly to the cruel edict, and expressed hopes Of meeting his
friends in a better world.
Wilson is the second son that Mr. GILLF.TT has lost in
the war—the first having been killed in the battle of Fair
Daks. Such sacrifices on the part of our patriotic citi
zens, are worthy of the gratitude of tire nation, and those
who are called upon to make them, deserve the sympathy
Gf a grateful people. 2k • M.

Thou sha'.t not steal thy neighbor's goods,
And say you found them 1n the iVoods,
Where a soldier hid his iil-got plunder,
When he had left the battle's thunder.
Thou shalt not steal by night or day,
And in the darkness take away
From TRACY'S Store his merchandise,
I On which you looked With evil eyes,
i Thou shalt not steal from any one,

Far better that the truth you tell,
If you'd avoid the road to hell.
