I®- LIEUT. N. J. CAMP — This gentleman,
*hose narrative of his adventures while a prisoner ara<sng
the rebels, will be found on the first page of our paper
to-day, was in this place on Saturday last. Lieut. CAMP
relates many interesting incidents, and says he saw Un
ion men in the South concealed in swamps, and fed by
Iheir wives and daughters. He says also that many Un
ion men have quantities of cotton hidden in the swamps
to save it from fallirg into the hads of the rebels.
T&" DEAD ! —Never iu the history of this
country, has the word DEAD rung so constantly in our
rs! It is borne on the gale—it is flashed over the tel
egraph—it loads down the mails— DEAD is written every
where. The friend from whom we have parted in robust
health and in good spirit, may by the next mail beannounc I
edasDEAD. The gallant soldiers who lie piled in heaps on i
the Peninsula are indeed DEAD, so far as their earthly ca- j
reeris concerned ; but no death can blot out their mem j
orv—they still live, and will live forever in the hearts of !
future generations as the saviors of the cause of freedom, j
which hung trembling in the balance. We have passed j
through '.he very throes of death, and now shall we not j
toon have the satisfaction of writing " secession is DEAD.'
