came to a sad and untimely end on Monday last. He
had started for Smithfteld Centre with a load of staves,
being alone, when as its supposed, bis horses took fright
and ran away, throwing him to the ground with such
violence as to kill hiai instantly. He was forty five
years of age.

ceived a circular stating that a Musical Convention wi 1
be held at Nichols, X. Y., commencing Tuesday, Decern
ber 31st, 1861, and to continue four days, and close withl
a Concert on Friday evening, January 3d, 1662, under the
direction of Prof T.E.Pkkkiss, Principal of the Nor
mal Accdemy of Music, Geneseo, N. Y.,and author of
the " Olive Branch." " Oriental Glee & Anthem Book."
These books will be furnished to the Convention free of
charge.
Prot. Pkrkins will be accompanied by his wife and oth
er dis tinnuished singers, among whom we notice the name
of Prof. J. G. Townkb, of this county. This New Year
Festival will no doubt be interesting and instructive, and
we advise all lovers of music to attend.
Admittance to the whole course, including Concert—
Gentlemen $1 00 ; Ladies 50 cents. Clergymen are in
vitad to attend, free of charge.
