THE ARMY WORM. —We learn from our
exchanges that the destructive army worms have appear
ed in some sections of the State and are making sad hav
oc ith the oats and corn crops. Probably no more de
structive animal or insect makes its ap pearauce in any
community—whole fields of grain, and not funfrequently
whole sections of country, failing a prey to its ravages.
We understand that they are making their way north,
and that every Held of oats and corn that comes within
the line of their march is doomed to certain destruction.
No means, as yet, have been discovered to destroy them
or divert them from their coarse.
On Wednesday last, says the Elmira
Advertiser, some Buffalo officers arrested a sweet look
ing young man, who had been round town for three weeks
past playing billiards, drinking brandy smashes, smoking
cigars, attending horse races, Ac. The arrest was in con
sequence of a rumor which had gained ground for a day
or two back among the boys that CUAULEY MILLER had
another name, more appropriate to one of the softer sex.
At the police office the secret came out, and CHARLEY
stood.confessed AS LYDI A FOSTER, a girl from twelve miles
south of Dunkirk. She states that she had been three
weeks in this unnatural attire, and asseits as a reason for
her wayward course, that she is seeking for a man. She
was taken before a Justice and afterwards given over to
the keeper of the Waverly Hotel, to be forwarded to her
home.

able and well known Superintendent of Common Schools
in the county, has kindly consented to organize the Tea
cher's class, and direct the course to be pursued.

To Rutus Mason :—Whereas a subpoena in Divorce
was issued to Feb. term, 1861, which was duly returned
non est inventus, and thef.-on nnd alias subpoena was

the return of which.proof was made that the said Rufus
Mason could not be found in my bailiwick.
This notice is therefore to require you to appear before
