BOOK BINDERY.
THE subscriber having withdrawn from the Argus
building would respectfully inform the public that
he has removed his Plain and Fancy Bindery to the North
Room of the Ward House, formerly occupied by the Post
Office, where he is now prepared to bind all kinds of
Books in the most approved and workmanlike manner.—
Having to share my profits with no second person 1 flat
ter myself that my'priccs will meet the satisfaction of the
public.
Thankful for the confidence reposed in me and the pub
lic appreciation of my work, for the last two years, I
shall endeavor iu tli s future to merit the continuance ot
public support.
Particular attention given to re-binding Books. All
work will be warranted. Terms, Cash.

CAUTION.
" To be, or not to be—'hat is the question !
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous opposition.
Or by taking up arms against a sea of printing ink,
And opposing, end them."
THE proprietor of the Argus takes o-easion in adver
tising his Bindery to indulge in an uncalled for fling
about a " sort of a concern," which is hoping " to delude
the public." As I have opened a Bindery on my own ac
count, the inference is that if the public bring their
binding to me. they are in no danger of being defrauded.
For two years I have worked for Mr. PARSONS, and he
has taken great pains t > satisfy the public I was the " best
Binder in America," as the columns of the Argus wil
testify. Has he been all that time " deluding the pub
lie?"'" If I have teen engaged in a fraud, lie has been th
principal. But I refer to my work during that time a
evidence that there has teen no fraud practiced.
Having served a long apprenticeship at the Bindery
business, I have resumed business here on my owu ac
count, as I know of nothing which prevents me from fol
lowing a legitimate and lawful calling for my support.—
I shall endeavor by good work and attention to my busi
ness to give public satisfaction.

IMPROVED TIOHT STITCH
Sewing Machines !
PRICES minced to s">o and upwards, for
Fam lies and Manufacturing establishments. Let
Manufacturers, Planters, Farmers, Housekeepers, or any
other persons in search of an instrument to execute any
kind of kind of Serving note done by machinen/, make
sure they secure the best, by examining ours before pur
chasing.
A few of mady reasons why the SEWING MACHINES
of LADD, WEBSTER A CO., are prefered above all
others
1. They are so remarkably simple in their construction.
A child cau operate them and understand the mechanism
2. They are the strongest Sewing Machine made. It is
almost impossible to break or get them out ol order.
3. They are sure in their operation ; finishing the
work in a uniformly perfect manner.
4. They make a tight lock stitch, alike on both sides of
the work, which cannot be unraveled.
5- They stitch, hem, bind, fell, run and gather, with
out basting.
6. They sew equally well the lightest and the heaviest
fabrics.
7. They sew over the heaviest seams without changing
the tension or breaking the finest thread.
8. They use any No. of Cotton, Thread or Silk directly
from the spool.
ff. They use a straight needle; curved ones are liable
to break.
10. The needle has a perpendicular motion. This is
absolutely necessary for heavy work.
11. They have a wheel feed; none others are in constan
contact with the work.
12. They run easily and almost noiseless■
13. They are not liable to oil the dress of the operator.
14. They do not require a screw-driver to set the needle.
15. They do not liave to be taken apart to oil or clean.
10. They are capable of doing a greater range eg work
and in a mora perfel manner than any other Sewing Ma
chine : as is proved by the result of our challenge lor a
trial, which has never been accepted.

THE reputation of this Machine is now fully establish
ed as the most reliable Machine in the market for
family use, and lias been attested too by thousands of the
most respectable families in the Union.
This Machine makes the celebrated " Double Lock
Stitch," the only one made hy machinery that meets all
the requirements of Family Sewing. Each stitch is tied
twice, so that every one is securely fastened and wholly
independent of all ihe other stitches for strength, so that
if the seam is cut or every fourth stitch broken, the sew
ing must hold pood while the fabric will wear. The
machinery which makes this stitch is a marvel of sim
plicity, requiring no mechanical skill to manage it. nor
does it require adjustment more than the mere change of
thread and needles to adopt it to the character of the
work to be sewed—coarse or tine as the case may be. It
will sew gauze laces, and all varieties aud kinds of fab
rics between and including heavy beaver cloth, without
changing either needles or thread equally well, and re
turn to either variety of work with perfect satisfaction.
No other Machine ever offered to the public will do as
much.
A perfect Sewing Machine, one making a stitch an
swering all the requirements ofthe family .sewing coarse
and fine work equally well, was the great desideratum of
the home circle, previous to the invention of EOWIN
Ci, AUK'S REVOLVING Loorwt. The stitch is beautiful,
trong. and elastic, and tall not rip in wear or in acci
dental breaking a thread. •
Every Machine is warranted to give satisfaction or the
Ecr.gey refunded.
We'have a large list of references but will give the
names of only a few :
