IMPROVED TIGHT STITCH
Sewing Machines !
I) RICES reduced to $5O and upwards, for
. Fam lies and Manufacturing establishments. Let
Manufacturers, Planters, Fanners, Housekeepers, or any
other persons in search of an instrument to execute any
kind of kind of Sewing now done by machinery, make
sure they secure the best, by examining ours before pur
chasing!
A few of mady reasons why the SEWING MACHINES
of LADD, WEBSTER & CO., are prefered above all
• others
1. They are so remarkably simptr in their construction.
A child can operate them and understand the mechanism
2. They are the strongest Sewing Machine made. It is
almost impossible to break or get them out ot order.
J. They are sure in their operation ; finishing the
! work in a uniformly perfect manner.
. j 4. They make a tight lock stitch, alike on both sides of
. i the work, which cannot be unraveled.
| 5. They stitch, hem, bind, fell, run and gather, with
| out basting.
j 6. They sew equally well the lightest and the heaviest
fabrics.
7. They sew over the heaviest seams without changing
i the tension or breaking the finest thread.
I 8. They use any No. of Cotton, Thread or Silk directly
' from the spool.
9. They use a straight needle ; enrved ones are liable
' to break.
10. The needle has a perpendicular motion. This is
absolutely necessary for heavy work.
11. They have a wheel feed; none others are in constan
contact with the work.
12. They run ea.-ily and almost noiseless
-13. They are not liable to oil the dress of the operator.
14. They do not require a screw-driver to set the needle.
15. They do not have to be taken apart to oil or clean.
16. They are capable of doing a gi-ealer range of work
and in a mora perfet manner than any other Sewing Ma
chine ; as is proved by the result of our challenge for a
trial, which has never been accepted.

! cpilF. reputation of this Machine is now fully establish
-1 ed as the most reliable Machine in the market for
family use, and has been attested too by thousands of the
' most respectable families in the Union!
This Machine makes the celebrated " Double I-ork
Stitcli,'' the only one made by machinery that meets all
. the requirements of Family Sewing. Each stitch is tied
twice, so that every one is securely fastened and wholly
. independent of all the other stitches for strength, so that
, if the seam is cut or every fourth stitch broken, the sew
ing must hold good while the fabric will wear. The
machinery which makes this stitcii is a marvel of sim
plicity, requiring no mechanical skill to manage it, nor
does it require adjustment more than the mere change of
thread and ueedles to adopt it to the character of the
work to be sewed—coarse or fine as the case may be. It
will sew gauze laces, and all varieties and kinds of fab
, rics between and including heavy beaver cloth, without
changing either needles or threa'd equally well, and re
r turn to either variety of work with perfect satisfaction.
> No other Machine ever offered to the public will do as
I much.
t j A perfect Sewing Machine, one making a stitch an
! swt-ruig all the requirements of the family. sewing coarse
• and fine work equally well, was the great desideratum of
the home circle, previous to the invention of EDWIN
. CLASS'S REVOLVING LOOPER. The stitch is beautiful,
' trong, and elastic, and tfill not rip in wear or in acci
• dental breaking a thread.
> Every Machine is warranted to give satisfaction or the
money refunded.
