jmd 20 days,and though so young was of manly strength
and proportions, equal to most of 18 or 20 years.
His illness was tedious and painful in the extreme, dur
ing nearly ten weeks. He bore it all with a calm, chris
tian, cheerful submission, very gratifying and commend
able iu one so young. He was a youth of uncommon
promise. Consecrated to God by believing parents from
his earliest existence and renewed by sovereign grace
when only seven years old, lie " witnessed a good confes
sion before many witnesses," in the Church. 1-roni that
time forward, his heart was set on the ministry and rais
■siouary work. To this end lie most assiduously labored
lor his own intellectual and relig-ous development, with
a degree of resolute patience and pcrscrcrancc seldom
seen, and a degree of success rarely witnessed, under
similar disadvantageous circumstances. He had become
thoroughly acquainted with the common school branches,
Natural Philosophy, and was ready for his academical
and collegiate course, when disease arrested his interest
ing career.
His illness and death were in keeping with his brief
and brilliant life, since liis public profession of religion,
('aim and cheerful, with prayerful tlioughtfulness, he en
gaged in religious conversation as his pains would per
mit, and declared himself willing to live or die, ss God
should determine. Thus every day of his illness was a
sermon to his youthinl acquaintances. Before he expired
he called each of his brothers and sisters to his bed side,
and gave them a melting exhortation, and a parting bless- j
ing, then prayed for each of them, including his parents. '
Thus the sun of his life went down clear and beautiful
in the morning of his days. Thus not only the parents
and neighborhood, but the whole Church has been be
reaved of one of its most promising sons, and illustrious
trophies ol God's renewing grace.
About four years ago these same parents buried their
second son, who was very similar iu character and prom
ise to this one, and about the age. Thus they have two
in heaven, and tour on earth. " Part have crossed the

The high reputation and ability of PROF. PERKINS, as
a Musical Director and Instructor, warrants the Com
mittee in promising a large attendance at this Conven
tion.—Every effort will be made to render its sessions
pleasant and instructive. Arrangements will be made to
provide members from a distance with comfortable ac
commodations at reasonable rates.

ing, notice is hereby given that purchasers at SherifTs
sales will be required to pay the amount bid at the time
the land is sold. It has become imperatively necessary
to adopt this rule, and it will be strictly adhered to, ex'
cept in cases, where the purchaser is a lien creditor and
la entitled to the fund as provided in the Ist section of
the act ol Assembly, approved April 20, 184G, which is
as follows : " Whenever the purchasers of real estate at
Orphans' Court or Sheriff's sale, shall appear from the
proper record to be entitled, as a lien creditor, to receive
