The two clergymeu and eleven others, are
I indicted for aiding and abetting the rescue of
the negro, and the remaining twenty-four are
indicted for the rescue itself. It is surmised
that whatever course the white men and free
negroes may adopt in regard to exposing tliem-
I wires to trial, the fugitive slaves among the
indicted will at least disappear from the scene
and take the underground railroad for some

A TRAGERV — SAD EFFECT OF PASSION
some twelve or fourteen years ago, Harlow
J Case was a respectable and esteemed citizen of
Buffalo. He held the place of Assistant Post
master u'der Mr Dorshcimer, and was for
I many years intrusted with the most important
duties of the office. A member of one of the
of th" Uuptist Churches, upright in every walk
of lile, married ami the father of a family, lie
seemed to be as firm in the straight forward
paths of virtue as any other. Removing to
Sandusky, Ohio, lie received the appointment
of Collector of the Port under Mr Fillmore.
The appointment was one universally approved
ami the numerous friends of Case, in this city,
were rejoiced at his success in life. While
li. 'ding that office, he was intimate in the family
of a Mr F., one of his assistants, Mrs. F. was
voung, beautiful, impassioned, and a fatal at
tachment grew up between the two, which re
mained unsuspected until the truth was made
known by the sudden elopement of Case with
Mr--. F., and the simultaneous discovery that
he had absconded with government funds to the
amount of some $44,000. From that time for
word nearly all traces of the guilty party was
lost. The family of Case, bereaved and be
trayed remained hopeless in their grief. Mr.
1\ engaged in a long, but fruitless chase of the
fugitives. And now from off the sea come tid
ings, a broken, half told story of lonely wan
derings in foreign lauds ; a full recital of n
, never-failing remorse, with pitiful and solitary
deaths in tar away islands and on the far away
waters of the Indian Ocean. Both victims of
unhallowed passion are asleep--the mother in
the groves of Ceylon, the little child in the coral
forests of the sea. The betrayer still wanders
the earth, the heavy hand of an avenging God
upon him, and sends to his abandoned home

ton. It thus announces its terrible intentions.
We devote it to the support of the Southern
cause—the Southern cause in that form which
onr enemies,call extreme, ultra, aggressive, Ac.,
and to save trouble, and let our whole hand at
once,'what wc require ou the part of the South
is—
First. Repeal of all laws prohibiting the
foreign slave trade, or imposing penalties there
on.
Second. Repeal of the law abolishing the
slave trade in the District of Columbia.
Third. Absolute resistance to everything in
the nature of a Compromise between North
and South.
Fourth. Peremptory demand fur the inter
vention of Congress, President and Supreme
Court for slavery in all Territories, the moment
u laveholder brings his slave there. Jn other
word-, intervention by the authorities to sus
tain the law and prevent robbery.
These are the days of political quackery, and
lie fares best who makes the ugliest mouths
and biggest talk.

Susan, from Mobile, with one hundred and
fortv " emigrants," was in consequence of the
revenue cutter McClelland, sent in pursuit,
having got a ground in Navy Cove.
