To the People of Bradford County. Lcßaysvillc Ma** Meeting, Sept. 20,1858. KEK>KT OF NOMINATING COMMITTEE. T Vhrreas, a consideration of what is best for , pablic interest should in every case govern ".'and an honest expression of our real senti u it> can give no honorable man offence: we, !' r conimUtee, appointed by the Convention [ Towanda, Sept. 13th mst., to nominate for your support at the coming election, believing a call for the old line Invention orgiuated with the friends of the li-ivc power, therefore respectfully submit the following nominations : 14. believing the Hon. G. A. GROW emi t|v qualified to represent our interests in Gjtrress, having steadily opposed the aggres . vepoliey of the slave power, and learned in their school that force, is the basis of their cvstern, and therefore unwilling to admit that slavery exists by virtue of constitutional law -■right: We therefore nominate him for REPRESENTATIVE of the 14th Congressional Dis -1 2nd That as no officer of government can j ~a | jv exercise authority not delegated by the !„">ple, and the people cannot delegate authori ty to do wrong ; your committee feel unwilling to say (by nominating other candidates,) that the Hon. PATIO WILMOT, and the other gentle men associated wliith him on the republican ticket being in advance of the republican party lieve that crimes can be made legal and right he human legislation : we therefore nominate tiiem for the offices respectively for which they have already been named by the republican party. All of which is respectfully submitted. X. J. COGSWELL, ) C OMM JTTEC. MII.ES CARTER, J The report was received with cheers, and re ferred for further consideration to the 2nd Tuesday in October next. The Atlantic V elegraph. The electricians engaged on the Atlantic Telegraph appear unanimous in the opinion that the insulation of the cable has become in hired by being suspended upon some projecting ]H)int of a steep bauk, and tlius gradually in hired bv its own weight. The soundings taken a few hundred tuiles from the Irish coast, show that a bank or steep range exists, the highest aid lowest points of which arc eight miles apart, showing a difference in elevation of 7,200 feet. But no one can form an idea of the nature of the ground in this intervening qmce of eight miles—whether the sides of the Htbmarine mountain be broken by ravines or precipitous cliffs, or whether it be a gentle slope. This spot which is 300 miles from Val entia end of the cable, is supposed to be the . ne where the iusulation of the cable lias been injured. We copy the following extract from an of IV'.al statement dated Valentin, September 12, wherein this idea is set forth as being the prev alent one among the electricians: " It must always remain a matter of doubt, however, wnether the falling off in the strain on the speed of the cable was observable at all until the top of the bank had been reached, and had this been the case, it is quite possible that the cable may have remained suspended upon some projecting points on the steep, and it- insulation soon become gradually injured by its own weight. This is of course hut a prob able conjecture, based upon the facts above ■tated. But at the same time it is impossible to account in anv other way for the cable hav ing become damaged since its submersion." THE STOUT CASE. —We learn from the Rcch edt-r Democrat, that the Supreme Court rendcr t that State. According to present in aiions au army will soon be fully employed 'U fighting the ludians. FCR~DR.
