A BOLD DEMOCRAT. —The following is the
conclusion of Mr. Broderick's nervous speech
in the Seriate on the Kansas Election frauds :
" But why enumerate these disgusting de
tails ? The facts arc before the people. They
are known to the President. He continues to
keep the men in office who are charged with
the commission of these frauds. The result of
all their enormityis before us,in the shape of this
Leeomptou constitution endorsed by him. Will
not the world believe he instigated .the com
luisssion of these frauds, as he gives strength
to those who committed them ? This portion
of ntv subject is painful for me to refer to. I
wish* sir, for the honor of my country, the sto
ry of these frauds could be blotted from exis
tence. I hope, in mercy, sir, to the boasted
intelligence of this age, the historian, when
writing a history of these times, will ascribe
this attempt of the Executive to force this con
stitution upon an unwilling people, to the fad
ing intellect, the petulant passion, the trembling
dotage of an old man on the verge of the grave.
aarThe Bath Advocate says :—On the
evening of Friday last, four prisoners, named
Thomas Alger, from Jasper, in jail for assault
anil battery, James Bowen, from Hornellsville,
for attempt to commit a rape, Austin Quick,
for forgery, Charles Miller, for horse stealing,
made a rush upon the turnkey as he was des
cending into the prisoners department to lock
theni in their cells for the night, knocked him
down and effected their escape by passing
through the family dining room, out of a side
door into the yard emst of the jail, and from
thence into the street. The alarm was imme
diately given, and a chase ensued which ended
in the capture of Quick and Miller. The other
two have not been caught.
" A CHARGE TO KEEP" —Mr. Thompson, of
Washington county, Ohio, has a little daugh
ter, who, at the age of four years, weighed
one hundred and fifty pounds. She is now
four years and five months old, and weighs, as
her parents, suppose, oue hundred and seventy
pounds !
MRS. SWISSIIELM'S printing office, in
Minnesota, was lately attacked by a mob and
her press destroyed.
