I Reports of the Kansas Press.
p.. m the iMtertntt (Kansas) Republican, Oct. 15.
Flection returns have been received from
Fv everv coautv in Kansas, and the result
I •' verv district—except the Leavenworth and
'\tchion Districts — hat gone overwhelmingly
1 ,L state. Such ft disparity of strength was
v ]v ever before exhibited between two
1 parties for power as is seen in the
1 f " te throughout all Kansas, except on the im
mediate Missouri border. Seventy to nothing
1 r lio to 3—2-10 to 0—905 to 11—this is the
1 ~~ IV the vote runs where the polls were not
I "vonient of access from Missouri. We said
1 Free-State ticket was Oterwhelfflingly vic
° HIS except in the two districts mentioned,
'f.'i.u we slightly erred. According to the
0 vote cast in this district, the Free-Statd
j™ r tv carried the day by 1,300 majority, out
| f 'Ui aggregate of about 2,300 votes, all was
I " r j ]t s0 f and would stand so, except for
I I'M- fraudulent returns mentioned elsewhere.
" \dniitting. however, the Johnson County,
nn d all other fraudulent returns, Marcus J.
1 parrot is elected by about three thousand ma
-1 and Secretary Stanton has indicated
I readiness to give him his certificate of clec-
I Johnson Couutv has sent up to the " Seerc
l tarv's office returns giving for the county some
| .- 0 (j pro-Slavery majority. The mass of
I returns are from the Oxford Precinct, a
I ]j tt lc town on the Missouri line, or, rather,
I -he village, what there is of it, is on the Mis-
I couri side. There are not thirty legal voters
living at that Precinct, and only some eighty
were polled the first day. But the polls were
! k> I't open, cr pretended to be, another day ;
V ar.il now the pretence is made that from a
1 thousand to fifteen hundred votes were polled
I .| ie second day. Now, according to the cen
r mis of the Pro-Slavery men themselves, John
|; <„n county contains only 496 voters, and a total
[ j lr p U lntwn of only 890 inhabitants ! Of course
I Midi monstrous returns'give prima facie, evi-
I deuce of being fraudulent throughout. A ma-
I ority of 10.0U0 would lie just as reasonable
I and "honest from Johnson County as this 1,700
I: majority.
"We learn that Secretary Stanton openly
1 mars his conviction that the returns are fraud
f dmt. and, of course, under such circumstances,
[ ce can stive no eirtijicates based upon them. In-
P died, should an attempt be made to defraud
t the members rightfully elected by the people,
1 of their ■seals, by the admission of these fraud-
I uirnt returns, we think we speak advisedly i
I n hen we say , f hat the peace of the whole Terri- j
[ t, ry would fcc immediate/y ami most imminently
| nazarded thereby.
The people ol Kansas have staked all, al-
I -t upon this-election, and now they will not.
| o. nd it to be defrauded again out of their just
k rghts. if it he gainxleowiistra ted to us that
I there is no reliance to be placed uponfflhe bal- j
I lot-box, what alternative is left but that of |
t pi rpetual degradation and slavery, or a jirompt
I: arrence to the final resort of oppressed and j
I ihwu-troddcu peoples ? Those now in au- j
I : rity—especially the Secretary and Govern- j
| cr—have resting upou them, at this moment, a
I most awful responsibility. Upon their wisdom i
| and justice in this case depends the peace of j
kan-as, and we may add, the peace *ud per- I
I petuity of the Union.
Let them beware, for they tread upon a ;
I volcano ?
The rights of the freemen of Kansas catwA j
K long be tampered with through such damnable
1 means. Federal bayonets will prove inefficient .
p lor the protection of members whose seats arc i
D thus fraudulently obtained, ami w ho never can i
I obtain them except through complicity of the \
K Kxecntive ofiiccrs. Sdi officers shall lie Id
L first in responsibility to an outraged people.— !
L Should certificates be given on such fraudulent 1
B returns, let the people lie prepared to settle |
L this question iit a manner that shall effectually
H nut and end to military dictatorship and ruf
p £au rule iu Kansas.
