Crop Prospects. THE WHEAT INSECT IK MICHIGAN. —We liave several letters and papers before us, all concur- j a ,r in a sad account of the destruction of the crowing crop of wheat in the Counties of Cass, Van Buren, Allegan, St. Joseph, Hillsdale, Calhoun, Jackson, Washtenaw and Kalamazoo, Michigan, by the wheat insect ; we suppose the same one that depredated so largely last vcar in several of the greatest wheat districts ot' tho country. Some fields that promised 25 UnJicls an acre three weeks ago are utterly plighted, and in some cases farmers are plow ji)(r up their fields and planting corn. This , aTamity has fallen very suddenly, and to many unexpected —they hoped the winter had killed the eggs. In the infected districts, some fields of Mediterranean wheat have as yet ecaped. The following letter from Geo. Talbot of (Yutrovillc, Michigan, is dated May 23. j see l>v your paper that you are anticipat ing fine crops of wheat this year. If other sections promise no better than this we shall have a very poor crop. I rode yesterday about 30 miles among the farmers, and did not see more than one" field of wheat but what was badly damaged by the insects. Some who three weeks ago thought they would have twenty-five bushels to the acre, would now like to be'insured tea ; some say they will not get their seed. A few had sown Mediterranean wheat last fall, that has cutirely escaped, and looks very well. Our corn is out of the ground and looks very well. I have forty acres planted which can be seen all across the field—will have to work it next week. — Xcw York Tribune. NEGRO T>OY WITH SNOW WHITE WOOL.—We vesterday noticed in the streets quite " a nut for physiologists to crack," in the shape of a negro "boy's head. The boy was some twelve or thirteen years of age, healthy looking, well grown, very black and" kinky haired," and what was remarkable in his physiology, was a triangular patch of snow white wool, the lower part of which ran down to the centre of his forehead, w hence it extended back to the centre of the head gradually widening, and with per fectly defined edges. The rest of his wool would have been whitened by a sprinkling of coal dust. The boy said he was " born that wav," and evidently proud of the singularity, wore his deformity like a crown.— Mobile Ad vertiser. COL. BRAGG. —We hear from an authentic youree, says the New Orleans True Delta, that the gallant Lieut. Colonel Bragg, of the artil- j h rv, so well known in connection with the j victory of our troops on the Rio Grande, under lien. Taylor, declines the Majority tendered him by the President in one of the new regiments. Co!. B. prefers his own " big guns" to the sabre and carbines of the dragoons. TIIE CROPS AT THF. WEST.—The Cincinnati j Gazette says with more good weather, the Ohio ! corn crop will be'lifty per cent, larger than ever before. Oats and potatoes, too, will be abundant, and all fruit but apples. From Illi nois we see prospects are flattering, and a good crop of peaches is promised. In Arkansas, the May wheat will soon be on their tables, the papers say. The Markets, May 26. It is sim ple in its construction, and executes its work with accura cy and despatch oa various kinds of soil. Unlike other planters, it has no gearing to get oat of repair, but is carried in the hand like a cane, and can be worked up hill or down; as well as on level ground, plant ing as much ground in a day AS five men can with hoes.— It may also be used to plant bean 6, as it can be guaged to drop as few or as many kernels as desired. It is meeting with unprecedented success everywhere it is introduced, having been presented at several Agricultural fairs, and always without exception received the highest premium, being the best and cheapest implement of the kind in use. The under-igned, having purchased the right of selling the said Planters in Bradford county, will canvass the county in April, at which time he will supply those who wish, or dispose of Town Rights to anv who wish to pur chase. JAS. B. SYKES. Owego, March 22,18.15. DAVIS* PLATFORM BEE-HIVE. THE subscriber having been appointed Agent for the counties of Bradford, Sullivan and Lvcoming, hasthe pleasure of calling the attention of the public to this useful invention. The Hive is truly a great improvement on the old square box ; and the facilities it affords for taking out the honey are as harmless to the bees, as they are profita ble to the owner. No resort to drums and pans is needed to hive the increase in the spring, and no resort to brim stone. fire and fagot is required to conquer the bees and procure their honey in the fall. As the bees multiply, new sections are added to the hive ; and when the honey is wanted, they are removed accordingly. The arrange ments for feeding the bees, for changing' them to different parts ot the old hive, or to a new one. for ventilation, are unquestionqhly ahead of anything hitherto known. A description of this Hive is impossible, without refer ence to a model, but an examination will satisfy any one of its advantages. For sale, Town and Individual Rights, with books, hill of feed.
