BY the 4th sects n of an act passed the 16th day
of April, 1810, it is provided •• that the 13th section
of an act passed July 2, 1539, entitled" An act re
lating to the elections of this commonwealth," shall
not be so construed as to prevent any militia officer

general or special election of this Commonwealth.
In the 61st section of the act first above mention
ed, rt is enacted that every general and special el
ection shed be opened between 8 and 10 to the
forenoon. and con tinu6 without interruption or ad
journment until 7 o'clock in the evening, when_ the
polls shall lie closed.
By the 18th section of'the act paced Feb. 3,1846
it shaall be lawful for the inspectors' and judges of
any general election which s tall be hereafter:held
in the Armenia election district of Bradlord counh•
to close the polls of such election at 5 o'clock l'.141;"

ber, 'not a majority of the citizens of this Com
monwealth, ore deeply impressed with the necessi
ty of the Passage of a Prohibitory Liquor Law:
And Whereas, It is imposi.ible . to obtain a certain
indication of popular sentiment relating thereto by,
means of petitions and remonstrance: Therefore,
§I . Be it enacted by the &nate and Haase of - Re-,
presentatires af the Commonwealth of Peansliinamia
in General Assembly mot, and it is hereby enacted
by aulharily of the same, That the qualified' voters
of this Commonwealth are hereby authorized at the
places for holding the general elections in their re
speetive wards, boroughs and townships, on the se
cond Tuesday of October next, to vote foe and
against a law which shall entirely prohibit by pro
per and aonsiitutional regulations and penallies,the
inanufactuJe. and sale of intoxicating liquors, except
for medical,eacramental, mechanical and artistica!
purposes.
§2. That the officers authorizNl by law to hold
elections in each ward, borough and township, of
this Commonwealth, are hereby directed and re
quired at the place fixed by law, in the several die
tricts•for tkte holding of the general elections in said
districts, on the second Tuesday of October nest.

tricts, a ticket written or printed on the outside,
" Prohibitory Liquor Law, and the tickets in favor

Law." which votes shall be counted - and returned
to the court house of the counties or city, in which

certify all the votes polled in said cdunty or city, to
the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth at
Harrisburg, directed and transmitted in the same
manner, the votes for Governer are required to be
directed and transmitted, and said Secretary shall
on the third Friday of January nest ensuing, com
municate the said returns to the Legislature, to be
opened and counted in the same manner the votes
for Governor are opened and counted, and consid
ered as the prayer of the voters of this Common
wealth relative to a Prohibitory Liquor Law.
