of April, (810, it is provided " that the 13th section
of an oct passed July 2,183 P, entitled" An act re
lating to the elections Of this commonwealth." shall
not hew construed as to prevent any militia officer
fri m serving as Judge, inspector or Clerk, at any
general or special elect!vri of this Commonwealth.
In the . 6lst section of the act first above mention
ed, it is enacted that every general and special el
ection shall be opened between 8 and 10 in the
forenoon, and continue without interruption or ad
journment until 7 o'clovk In the evening, when the
polls shall be closed. it
By the 18th section of the act pasrq Feb. 3,1846
it shall be lawful for the inspectors and judges of
any general election which a tall be hereafter held
in the Armenia election dtstrict Bradford county
to close the polls of such election at 5 o'clock P.M."

It is further directed that the meeting of the Judg

AN ACT for the Suppression of toe Manufacture and
Sale of Intoxicating Liquors, as a Beverage.
WHEREAS, All laws to be efficient should hrfire
the approbation and sanction of the People :
And Whereas, It is represented that a large ndm
bet, if not a majoritylof the citizens of this Com.;
monwealth, ore deeply iMpressed with the hecesif
ty of the Passage of a Prohibitory Liquor Law:
- And Whereas, It is impossible to obtain a certain
indication of popular sentiment relating thereto by
means of petitions and remonstrance : Therefore;
41. Be it enacted by the &nide and House of Re
presentatives of the Commonwealth of Peary:Wl:anis
in General Assembly mot, and it is hereby enacted
by authority of the same, That the qualified voters
of this Commonwealth are hereby authorized at the
places fur holding the general elections in their re
spective wards, boroughs and townstips, on the se
cond Tuesday of October nest, to rote for and
agamst,a law which shall entirely prohibit by pro
per and constitutional regulations and penallies,the
manufactuxe and sale of.intoxicating liquors. eicept
for medical, sacramental, mcchanieal and artistical
purposes.
§2. That the officers authorized by law to hold
elections in each ward, borough and township, of
this Commonwealth, are .hereby directed and re
quired at the place fixed by law, in the several the
tricts for the holding of the general elections in said
districts, on the second Tuesday of October next.

to receive from each qualified voter of their said din
