Settees Fairauvr.—The Rocheiter American, of
Tursiday week says 'a few days .since we chroni
cled the death of 'Prof. Webster's child, and to-day
we have to'note another mast awful and unfortu
nate occurrence, that has overwhelmed a large lam b .
ly with grief unutterable, and sent a ,pang to the
heart.of the entire community. On Saturday after
noon, abotit 2 o'clock, Louis A. 1)., youngest son of
at Hon . t. F. Smith, was missed by the 'family.—
Sealch was made, and during the' entire of Saint:
day night, Sunday and Stinday night sVes maintain
ed in every part of .they . city. The- bellman's cry
was heard every where, and parties of men track.
ea every street and Visited every pot *bereft was
deemed possible that the child might be., The ca.
nal was raked and canton were fired over the wa
ter'in the hope of recalling the body it death by
drowning 'had taken place. A thousand rumors
were afloat that served only to add to the general
anxiety, and deepen The,anguish of the family and
friends. Yesterday morning measures were taken
for a more careful aid extended search.. -The CI&
tern, well and outhouses were again examined, and
the yard was thoroughly investigated. 'I he result
was the finding of the body of the child in the cor
ner of the yard, six or eight rods distant from the
house, head 'foremost in a deep post hole. In play
ing a bout, he must have fallen in, and have been
unable to attract attention by his cries. And there
half belied, as it wems and suffocated, this little lel
folk met a horrid death, within reach of his home.
TiltnAtaph AN HORNELLEMILLEAmactso has
had its name changed to the Buffalo and New
roar thy Railroad. ,It is to cross the Genesee
river less than half a mite below the village of
Portage, at right angles.--there being straight tines
on both sides.
The river is to be, passed by a Massive Trestle
Bridge, built upon pieis of cut stone, elevated
;dove high water mark. From the bed of the ri•
verl_which is solid rock—the structure risesl3o
feet to the rail, and is to be built as strongly as
wood'and iron can make it—it being estimated
that it wilt require nearly 2,000,000 of feet of fin..
beetcrcomplete it. The span of the river is 500
feet, and the bridge into be extended a considdra
ble distance on both sides, instead of embanking.
The -project of ,throwing over, at some future
Jay, a Tubular Bridge, like that, over the Menai
Straits, has been discussed. The whole work has
been sublect, and 2600 men are now at work upon
the - different sections. The Boflalo . people hope to
