'tered with the perusal of a letter from' Cuba, eon
cernina 'the late movements of the Spanish Gov
emtnentin that Island, &c.. lt, a dated, Manua
zas; Isle of Cuba, Oct. 15, 1055, and saysffiat on
the 'evening of the 7th; and the morning of the Bth
of the present month, fifteen persona, all Cubans
were arrested, bv the -government and pot in prison,
charged with beingspies and revolutionists ; many
however, made their escape trom the island. The
writer of the fetter then' goes oh to recapitulate the
names of those invested; imong whom we noticed•
that of Don Francisco de la 0. t;arcia,.Don Satnri
trio Hernandez, and others of tbe most influential
and wealthy men on tie -island. Among those
who escaped was Col. Francisco Hernandez More
on, an officer in the National—Army, and his bro
ther Don Predro.

It is said th at these men who are arrested are
soma of the t most wealthy and influential persons
in Crtha, and though they have been taken op only
on the mere snprosidon of being spies, the whole
country around, including even the soldiers and of
ficers of the army itself ,me dissatisfied, and dark

tion of some officer of the government one or two

day they advertise, as belore, "500 girls wanted"

We learn that some fortnight since the steamer
Apure Capt Wakefield, built at Philadelphia, and
destined Os was supposed for Venzitela, left Phila
delphia secretly in the night without clearing at
the Custom Noose and without papers. Accord
ingly orders were despatched by telegraph to all
the Southern ports to seize her in case she should
enter any one of them. Finally, on the the 13th
inst., anon of weather compelled the Captain to
pininto Wilmington, Nt C., in a very badly dam.
