THE PITTSBURG DISPATCEf, FRIDAY. " DECEMBER 23.- 1892. HEADED BY MR. KERR. Another Citizens' Movement Started to Put in Jhe Field a COMPLETE HOKICIPAL TICKET. Etputlicans May Kominate Mayor Gour ley for Controller. THE ALLEGHEKI MAIOEALTT CONTEST r Another citizens movement having in view the nomination of a full city ticket is in the process of formation. One or two county officials, and several attorneys and business men, some of whom have hereto fore been prominently identified with poli tics, are agitating the scheme. Mayor Gourlcy is the choice for Controller and Major Bcnniston JorTreasurer. Who the leaders in the scheme favor for Mayor is not definitely known, but it.ls likely that Captain Thomas Kerr will be the man if it goes through. It is argued that a Demo jrat must go on the ticket to draw votes horn that party and Captain Kerr is con sidered as popular a man as could be found. Several meetings have teen lield withfc the past -week, one of which the Mayor at tended on invitation, but thus far the matter has not been shaped up. It is ex pected that by the time the Republican Convention meets the new scheme will be ready to spring on the people. Republicans May Jfomlcate Gour.'ey. The talk of the Republicans nominating Mayor Gourley on their ticket for Con troller has been revived. He has many Republican friends who are advising it and their influence is being brought to bear on those who will have much to say in influ encing the convention delegates. Some of the leaders themselves have already ad mitted the advisability of using the Mayor's name, but think the opposition to him vitlnn the party will make it impossible. Present appearances all strongly indicate that Pastmaster McKean will head the Re publican ticket He reluses to admit there is any possibility of it, but bra carefully studied cflort avoids saying he' .will not ac cept the nomination if tendered to him. All the Republican leaders speak favorably ol him without saying they are in lavor of Lis being the nominee. Unless a decided chance comes over the situation belore January 7, Mayor Gourley's name will adorn the Democratic ticket lor Controller. This opinion is the one held by nearly all the leading members ot the party. One who has given the matter considerable attention lor a specific purpose said last night that not over one Democrat" in ten was opposed to the Mayor, and if the party's t ish was respected he would be its candi date lor Controller without embarrassing conditions. Not Anxious for the Office. Regarding his action on the Alliance nomination the Mayor was not prepared to talk yesterday. Ail his talk indicates that he don't want to assume the burden of a iampaign. As far as the office itself is con cerned he would not be justified in making much ot an effort to get it. It onlv pays H,000 a year, ana in event of a lejral wran gle with other officials the Controller gen erally employs private counsel. The Mayor figures that this would consume really half the salarv, leaving him considerably less than he could make in business, outside of politics, and without the harassing labor of securing election or fulfilling the duties of the office. At the same time the Mayor would accept the office iX the people gener ally shone J a desire to have him do so. The Mayor went home last night sick from a severe cold contracted on his Western trip last week. He did not expect to re turn to nis offioe for several days. lesterday tbe Industrial Alliance secured rooms in the Shannon building, 108 Fourth avenue, and they will open their headquar ters there this morning. The-Toom will be open each day and evening until the close of the campaign. Hereafter all meetings of committees will be held at the headquar ters. Tne first meeting will take place next Tuesday evening when the committee expects to know definitely whether Mayor Gourley's name will have a place on the Alliance ticket. ALLEGHENY WAEMING UP, Sensational Stories About the Republican Mayoralty Candidates. Allegheny politics have livened np con siderably within a few days. The Mayoralty question is almost lost sight of in some wards, the Councilmanic contests over shadowing everything else. Stories are be ing circulated against the Mayoralty can didates on both sides now, but mud-sling ing has not been resorted to. The most sensational story heard is that Major Tyler's friends are trying to capture the Reform Association. Details are not given and the Tyler people laugh at the story, but it is claimed that Councilman Charles Simon is engineering the scheme and has already se cured the election of halt a dozen Tyler men into the association and that he isen- deavoring to get in enough to capture a meeting on the eve of the primaries, repu diate the indorsement of Kennedy and give Tyler the indorsement instead. "The attitude ot John R. Henricks is caus ing Mayor Kennedy's friends considerable Uneasiness. Mr. Henricks himself is saying nothing, but it is understood that he" has decided to run as an independent Republi can candidate if Kennedy gets the nomina tion, and that most of Tyler's friends will give him their support. The friends of Mr. Henricks say he could be elected, but the general impression in Allegheny is that with such a combination the Democratic saqjlidate would carry off the prize. HOPES IT WILL BE A GOOD MAN." II r. Kagee Says He Knows Little About the Mayoralty Nomination. C I Magee returned yesterday from Kew York, where he had been for a week. Regarding local politics he had nothing to say, except that he hoped the Republican Convention would nominate a good man. He hadn't anv idea who the nominee would be. "When Senator Flinn was asked for news on the local situation yesterday he said: "There is nothing to make news and won't be until the convention, so far as the Re publicans are concerned. I intend to give up my time lor the next week to enjoying" the Christmas holidays." Nomination Papers Might Be Stolen. Tne County Commissioners are afraid that during the exciting political contest now opening up there might be an effort made to steal some of the applications for nomination papers. To avoid any of the serious consequences that might result they have decided to make a copy qf the sig natures and all such papers for public in spection, as the Baker law requires, and to lock the originals up for safe-keeping. ' Thirteenth Warders Will Suggest; The Republican Executive Committee of the Thirteenth ward has called a suggestion meeting ot the Center avenue schoolhouse next Tuesday evening. THE DISPATCH of Sunday, Christmas Day, will have over 150 columns of pure reading matter, beautifully illustrated. Special display of Christmas novelties In silk and atln embroidered suspenders.
