The Telegrapher' Strike General Orer the Bock Island Srstem, bat the R, C, B. & N. Men Refute to Go Oat-Bolh Sldei Claim Everything. Chicago. Dec. 8. Officials of the Bock Island Bailroad claim that the statement of the officen ot the Order of Railway Telegraphers in regard to the strike on that system is greatly exaggerated. There are 635 operators in the employ of the EocK Island company. Of these, Chief Bamsey Bays, 675 are members of the organization, and exactly that number of men left their keys at 10 o'clock this morning. On the other hand, General Manager St. John declares that only 37 men on the en tire system obeyed the order to strike, nine of these beinc on the Illinois division. He further says that the company is not in the least embarrassed; that there are two ap plicants for eTery vacant position, and that there trill be no interruption of the service at any point At Kansas City and snbnrbs the Bock Island has only six operators and they are employed in freight offices. At noon all left their keys. Later four of them re turned to work, and the places of the other two men were filled by new men. Nearly all Bock Islsnd telegraphers in Kansas and Oklahoma went out to-day. On the divi sion between Ft. Dodge and Des Moines, la, only fonr telegraphers are at the keys. They are station agents who are not mem bers of the order. Train service is consid erably crippled. AH operators on the Des Moines Valley division are out. Nebraska operators are out So far as can be learned, not a single op erator on the Burlington, Cedar BapMs and Northern Bailroad went ont this morning, and it is not anticipated they will join the strike on the Bock Island Bailroad proper.
