Captain Green Denies Reports About Mr. Eofcerts' Visit to Europe. 0 PROSPECTS FOR A NEW DEPOT HERE 1'he officers and directors of the Pennsyl vania road reached here last evening on their annual inspection of the lines, and registered at the Jlonongahela House. President George B. Roberts is looking well since his return from Europe. Among the callers at the hotel were Superintendent Piteairn, First Vice President James Mc Crea and General Manager Joseph Wood, of the Pennsylvania Company, Superin tendent McCargo, of the Allegheny "Valley, and Superintendent Watt, of the Pittsburg, Virginia and Charlestown. In the railroad party are President Rob erts, Vice Presidents J. M. DuBurray and Captain J. P. Green, Directors A. M. Pox, N. P. Shortridge, H. D. Welsh, 1L H. Houston, W. H. Barnes, A. P Little and George Wood, General Manager Charles E. Pugh, Chief Engineer W. H. Brown and others. Much stress is laid by the public on Mr. Roberts' visit to Europe this summer. It is claimed he saw a number of the leading shareholders on the other side, and fur ished them with valuable information. The plans ot the company in connection with the World's Fair and other improvements contemplated were unfolded and received the hearty approval of the foreigners. It is added that special significance is attached to this inspection of the road, as it would jive stockholders in this country a chance ;o confer with the officials about proposed approvements. Nothing Sicnificant, These reports look well enough on paper, )ut Captain J. P? Green, Third Vice Pres dent and spokesman for the party, mocked them promptly into a cocked hat. 3e replied that the inspection is the ir.nual affair, and there is nothing signifi :ant about it. Mr. Roberts, he said, went o Europe solely for pleasure, and he loubts if he looked at a railroad on the ther side. He denied that he conferred vith prominent English stockholders or iny others. It was wondered, if so much vas to be done for other cities, where Pitts Jurg came in. Jsothing was learned about he new depot for this city and when it vould be commenced. It is the same old lory, the company is not ready to do the vork. This morning the party will go to Mc Teesport, where the greater part of the day rill be spent in looking over the ground. ?Dtain Green declined to disclose the coni jany's plan, but it is well known that the -'ennsylvania road will be extended to the hriving city up the Monongahela river. A Bridge to Be Built. The chances are a bridge will be built cross the river from the P., V. & C. side. he plan is nnder discussion, and a con tusion will be reached after the inspect ion. Early to-morrow morning the party will eave lor Richmond, Cincinnati, St Louis, :hicago and Cleveland. The Allegheny 'alley road will be examined last. It as been decided to double-trnck bis road to Oil City. It won't be done at nee, but numerous side tracks will be con ected and others will be built until the econd track is completed. It is only a uestion of time also until the Pennsylva- ia secures control of the Western New rork and Pennsylvania from Oil City vto Inffalo. This would give the company its wn Jine to the latter place from Pittsburg. flD-BITS."
