Wm - THE PITTSBURG DISPATCH. SUNDAY. AUGUST 7, 4892. AT HIS BEAVER HOME Senator Quay Beturns Eroni Washington City in Ycry Poor Health. BEGAMNG HIS STBENGTH. He Has Temporarily Banished Poli tics From His Mind. WHILE FARMING AT LONG RANGE, Si Talks a Little en the Allegheny Federal Building, ASD OX TOE PEOPOSED SHIP CANAT.S Senator Quay is resting at his comforta ble home in Beaver. He arrived from Washington Thursday morning, and will remain at home until he feels considerably stronger than now. A Dispatch re porter visited him yesterday afternoon, and at 4:30 found him seated in an arm chair in his library, trying to smoke a mild cigar and chatting with his friends, S. D. Warm castle and United States Marshal Harrah. The Senator's working room is in the north wine of the house, where the sun does not send its rays during the heat of the day, and a cool breeze moved the shutters to and fro and genrly flapped the window curtains. The heat of the city is not felt at Beaver and a refreshing wind blows along its shaded streets and through the embowered Is n ns Senator Quay has not been well since he snflered Jrom the grip last winter. "It is or.e of those ailments," he says, "where a man is sick six months alter he getswelL" When he arrived home he was feeling greatly fatigued and suffered some pain," which he attributsd to rheumatism, but yes terday he was already ieeling much better. "I lost 12 pounds in three weeks at Wash inclon," he said, 'flf that rate of loss should keep up there would be nothing left of me in a few months, and the Senatorial contest would be ended." He does not look ill, though his face has not its sual ruddy color. When he feels stronger and is well rested he will go to the seashore. Politic Banithed for the. Tim p. The Senator during his home-stay is not worrying his mind about political affairs. Yesterday he said he did not desire to av for publication anything about the political situation. He did not care to discuss the work of Congress; but he said he was glad that the two house3 had finally adjourned. He feared for a day or two that they would get into a snarl, and that, in spite of his ill health, he would be compelled to go hack to Washington. He is not an admirer of Washington's summer climate, and during the last fortnignt the weather there was even worse than in Pittsburg. The Senator alluded with pleasure to the passage Friday evening of the sundry civil appreciation bill containing the appropri ation for a Federal building in Allegheny. "The original appropriation of 5250,000 for that purpose," he said, "allowed only 05,000 for the purchase of the land. Xo suitable sight could be bought for anything like that amount. The new appropriation etiws $201000 jftbe-land, and.hat will secure the location "needed, right near the City HalL Of course only 550,000 remains out of the whole amount for the building, but the land once bought there will be no difficulty with a further appropriation for a fine postoffice. The 550,000 will carty on the work until an additional appropriation can be secured." Interested In Ship Canals. The Senator's bill authorizing an expend iture for a governmental survey of the proposed ship canal from Lake Erie to the Ohio river passed in the Senate but was not acted on in the House. It goes over until the second session, beginning next Decem ber, and Senator Quay expressed confidence that it would be passed by the House. Ho i greatly interested in this measure, and rnmmented on the tact that the people in Western Pennsylvania seemed to have lost their interest in it and were doing little or nothing to push it before Congress. He'is also interested in the proposed ship canal across New Jersey to make a direct water line from New York to Philadelphia. This enterprise, he believes, will be put through, and will prove to be a great promoter of water transportation be tween those two great cities. He thinks its tnnnasre will be so large that it would richlv pay a private corporation to construct and operate such a canal. The distance from Paritan Bay to the Delaware river ii very short. The cost would be much less than the mm appropriated by Congress at one session for the improvement of the harbor ol Galveston, while the traffic over such a waterway would be many times that which the improved harbor of" Galveston accom modates. Ho Has Rfcnme a Farmer. Senator Quay, while not allowing politics to bother him just now, has on his mind a subject for ample worry. He has bonght a Jnrm away down in Chester county, and having a man there to operate it, the Sena tor is trying to do the managing at long range. He receives, every day or two, a letter from the farm asking his desires in regard to the various crops, the use of fertilizers, the care of stock, eta, etc. Each friend who calls upon the Senator is placed in an easy chair, and is then cross-examined en those anestions of farm management w hich have latest been presented for settle ment. The Chester farm is receiving the benefit of the concentrated agricultural lore of Beaver, and if it is not a howling success it must be because the best farming prin ciples ol Western Pennsylvania are alto gether inapplicable to the effete lands of down-east Chester county. The Senator has high hopes. HELD FOR WIFE MURDER. Max Cntkisky Gives 85,000 Tiall on the Charge or Killing His Wife Several Other Cas-s Disposed of bj .Tnrtge Ewlnj. A Case That Is ot Interest to Everyone TVho'SnHr rs From Indigestion Terrible buffering Klght and 1 ly. Do you eat wellt If so, you enjoy one of the greatest bless ings ot lire. But how many people thore are who never know what It Is to ejnoy a meal. The more the taste is pandered to the less the appetite manifests itself. Instead, perhaps, there is a decided revulsion and the food that one must oat to keep the body alive Is forced Into an unwilling stomach, only to cause in tense pain and a sickening nausea. Why Is this Did you ever stotf to con sider the reasonT Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers have from time to time in these columns endeavored to point out the cause ot dyspepsia or disordered digestion, and that their explanation is tho correct one Is evidenced by the'nmny cures their method of treatment is produoing every day. Plivstologv teaches that the numerous glands or the stomach throw out during the 24 houis 14 pints of gastric Juice almost two gallons with which to di gest the rood we eat. In chronic catarrh or the stomach, tue mucous lining of which is continuous with that ot tha nose and throat, the secreting glands become diseased nnd depraved and do not fulfill their proper functions, hence the food lies heavy In the stomach and lennents, instead of being di- Sested. Foul gases arise therefrom which Istend the stomach, causing weight, tlghf nets, flatulence, bloating and discomfort. The heart and lungs aieencroached upon by the diaphragm, which impedes their natural action, hence o have fluttering or pulpita tion, and in consequence of disturbed circu lation and respiration coldness of extremi ties, depression ot spirits (nervousness), feeble pulse, dizziness, shortness or breath, hot and cold flasues, e:c, etc A 1TPJCAL CASE. The Many Distressing Symptoms nhlch Follow CatHrrh of the Stomach, To-E-ther With a Striking Fxample of the Ffflcacy of the Treatment of Dr. Cope- lnnI, Hall and riyers. No one who has not suffeied from catarrh of the stomach o.ui understand the terrible condition to which that disease brings Us victim, nor can one read the following statement and remain unconvinced of the tact that Drs. Copeland, Hall & Byers can and do cure this trouble In all its manifold phages. Here, for lnstano?, is the case of. Mr. Jllclmul Schafiei, a mill worker, who resides on Pen n street, Mt. Oliver. "I had catairh pt the stomach In its most severe form for two years. During all that time it was Impossible tor me to eat any thing without experiencing terrible agony. "I not only haa no desiie to eat, but the sight of food made mo ill, and I used to starve myself rather than face the ordeal of taking a meal. Especially was this the case for breakfast. Mr. Michael S haffer, Perm Strrct, ML Oliver. "The result was that I grew weak and emaciated, nnd was utterly nnflt for the per formance ot any duty. In fact I did not care to live. "In addition to catarrh of the stomach I' had also catanh of the head nnd throat. There was a continual buzzing and roating in my ears; my head and nose were stopped up and my throat w ax so sore I could hardly suallow. I had violent headaches and the Inflammation in my throat seemed to set my whole head afire. "I lost flesh and strength, and was slowly wasting away. My sleep was disturbed by horrid dreams, and I an oke in the morning more tired than going to bed. 'At last I decided to trj- Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers. When I went to tbeir office 1 was feeling very badly, indeed. I began their treatment and now feel as if I had never been sick a day. It seems wonderful. Mot only has the catarrh disappeared, but my stomach Has regained its lormer strength nnd tone. I have an excellent ap petite and relish my food, nnd can eat heartily all the time without the slightest discomfort. Eating has become once more a delight. I .have gained in weight and strength. I feel as well as I ever did. I am delighted beyond measure ith my lapid improvement, and I heartily recommend these specialists to all who may be suffering as I was." DO YOU HEAR WELLT Partial r Complete Deafness Almost Al ways Dae to Catarrh Neglect That Brings on Impairment and Destruction of the Hearing. A very large percentage of tho cases of total or partial deafness Is due directly to catarrh. The deafness begins .with roaring and buzzing noises, one of the first symptoms of this disease. 'MSI fcjifll'' now comr-on this affection is. Nearly one- Half or the people yon meet are so affected, and you can observo It if you will look close ly, because tt is impossible to disguise when the critical eye is nn the alert lor It. It is a sad thing to 'lose any of tho senses, or toihnve any on e of them impaired. What can, beisaid oi a person who permits a dis ease to so Impair his "senses as to threaten tho destruction of one or more of them? Does it not seem like a sheer waste of nat ural gifts? Yet many persons, by neglect ing to secure the right kind of treatment, which can be had only by specialists prop erly trained for the purpose, bring upon themselvet a derangement and an impair ment of the sense of bearing which oper ates to destroy every Interest in lire, and to rob them of all the freshness of pleasure. Szlbtsfort, Md., July 19, 1692., I received more benefit from the oonrse of tieatment with Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers than I over received before, and I have doctored a great deal for the disease, and with some very eminent physicians. 1 will confess that I did wrong in not con tinning the .treatment longer, but I felt so much relieved that I negleoted it. At pres ent I ara feeling better than I have tor Ave years. Bnisox Welch. Plain Words Ptatuly Stated, Or all the diseases that come under the observation or a specialist the ear compli cation of catarrhal trouble is the most dreaded, because he realizes the fact that it requires months of continuous and perse vering treatment to relieve, while toe suf reier Is so Impatient and thinks the annoy ing buzzing or ringing noises should be re lieved and the bearing restored in a few weoks. The truth Is the ear trouble is among the last symptoms to appear 'and therefore the last to disappear and denotes an aggravated and long-standing catarrhal condition. The reason so few sufferers are eyer entirely restored Is that they grow im patient and do not give their physician sufficient time to bring the diseased Jiarts to a healthy state. It waB to oover ust snch aggravated eases that Drs. Cope land, Hall and Byers ledneed their rate of ti catment to the nominal sum or $5 a month, so tliat patients could afford to stay with thorn until cured, and, therefore, there Is no excuse for persons going through the world with the sense of hearing impaired or lost when skillful treatment by experienced specialists is within the easy possibilities of all. ' 1 DO TOO SEE WELLT Eye Trouble Resulting From Catarrh The Case of Miss Lizzie Kelly, Illustrating the Extension of Catarrh to tho Eye and Its Appendages. The case of Miss Lizzie Kelly, residing at No. 1 Ferry street, Sharpsburg, clearly Illus trates the extension of catarrhal trouble to the eye and its appendages. When Miss Kelly was first brought to the office of Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers by her mother she was an object of extreme commiseration. Her oyes, especially the left one, weie so in flamed and sensitive that she could not open them without the most intense pain, caused by the light. The ulceration had extended Irom the eonjnnotival mucous membrane to the eyo proper, thus making one mass of ulcerated surface, causing partial blindness. What a great change has been wrought in her condition since then. To-day she has a pair ot as pietty bine eyes us any lady who visits their office. "I had been troubled with my eyes for a long time," says Miss Kelly, "and doetoied for them almost continually with little or no benefit until I went to Drs. Copeland, Hall and Bvers. Every' doctor I consulted pi e vious to visiting them prescribed some eye lotion which relieved for awhile, but soon I was as bad as ever. "Besides the eye trouble I had severe head ache, my nostrils wore Inflamed and ulcer ated and filled with ciusts, my throat was often filled with .tough mucous.whieh caused considerable hawking to dislodge, my appe tito was poor nnd stomach deranged. Alto gether, I was in a bad stato or health gen erally, weak, nervous, debilitated and de spondent. "Under Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers' sys tematic treatment I soon experienced im provement in my general health, and the eyes made wonderful progiess toward a cure. Tho pain and sensitiveness soon left them, and long before the sixmontns were ud the ulcerated surfaces weie healed. Oc casionally after catohing a severe cold they ' wouiu uecome innameu aiitiiengain, uuc persistent treatment lias worked the desired result. Naturally I feel very gratefnl to these doctors for the benefit received at their hands, as their course of treatment was tedious and painstaking, and clieerfnlly make this statement, proving the beneficial results of their method of tieatmeut in dis eases similar to mine." TTOMAN'S TROUBLE. General Weakness, Pain, Distress and Ex haustionResults of Catarrh, Many women to-day suffer pain nnd are weak and nervous without knowing the cause. Their oik greatly fatigues them and they cannot eat well. At night they rest poorly and in the morning feel wholly nnflt for the duties of tbe day. In short, they are mtsernble from general impairment of health, besides enduiing pain and distress hard to fully describe. Many such cases are the result of catarrh, which affeots the whole system, and they find quick and cer tain relief Irom tieatment fitted to the case. ' Such an instance is related ,below by Mrs. Frank Smith, of Love avenue, Niinick sta tion. Said she: "My trouble began about six or seven years ago. I conghed incessantly, and lost so much flesh that rav trlends as woll as my self were apprehensive or the gravest re sults, and otten wondered bow long it wonld last. "My appetite was gone, and if I ever did feel hungry, the sight of food seemed to nauseate me. At times I had a bloated feel ing about my stomach, and at others, espe cially after eating, thete seemed to be a heavy weight there. My bowels were con stipated and my whole system seemed to Oe gradually going to pieces. "I tried doctors and doctors, and round no relief. I bad been leading of the many cures made by Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers. At first I doubted nnd hesitated, hut finally I made up my mind that If so much could be done for others, something, at least, might be done for me. I called on them at their offices, 66 Sixth avenue. They told me I wonld get well, and I placed my seir under their treatment, and the result has been truly wonderful. I am as well as I ever was in -my life, and feel that I cannot say too much for these gentlemen." MEN'S HATS AND FURNISHING GOODS. George Hagan, Employed at the Clin ton M1U, Describes His Buffertngs. From Head 'and Stomach Trouble and Subse quent Core by Drs. Copeland, Hall and Dyers. Mr. Hagan, a puddler by occupation, is employed at the Clinton mills and resides at Clinton row, West Carson street, Sontlislde. "I had been troubled with my head a long time," says Mr. Hagan, "which 1 know now came from repeated oolds from exposure at my n oik. No one can understand what tortures I endured with the pain In my head at times. I often felt I would go crazy with it. I had terrible neuralgic pains all through my head, and, although my nostrils were perfeotly clear and 1 could breathe well through them, they often felt dry and parched, the same as my throat, tongue and mouth. "My stomach also became affected to such an extent that Host my appetite and what little I ate caused pain and a heavy feeling, Mr. George Hagan, Clinton Rote, W. Carson St. with bloating and belching up of sour gas. Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers, whom I con sulted, explained to me that all these troubles came from neglected colds, causing a catarrhal Inflammation of tbe parts, and promised a cnie if I would attend faithfully to taking my medicine, but said I would probably have to continue under treatment three or four months. "I have Just completed my first month's treatment and can say that I am entirely oared. I haven't a pain or ache about me, and I feel as well as I over did, but to make sure I am going to continue under treat ment another month. I take pleasure in recommending Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers to all pei sons afflicted as I was, as I know they understand their business thor oughly." Tilings to Be Bemembered. That catarrh is not simply a local affection confined to tbe head, prodnclng a discbarge of mucus from the nose and tnroat, with a hawking and snlttlng to dislodge, bnt the entire system Is fiequently affected by it. That catarrh of tho nose causes frontal headaches, more commonly known as neuralgia, ear ache, dizziness, n sense of dullness or drowsiness, confusion of thoughts, etc ' That catarrh of the throat, .bronchial tubes ana lungs causes -sore tnroat, chronic cough, hoarseness or entire loss of voice, bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, consump tion, etc. f That catarrh of the stomach and bowels causes dyspepsia, indigestion, heart-bnrn, water-brash, nausea, fettd breath, palpita tion of the heart, alternate constipation and diarrhea, diopsy, liver complain!, Jaun dice, and by its irritating effects on the lower bowels, also pile, fissure, fistula, itching, etc. That catarrh of the bladder causes dia betes, Bright's disease, incontinence or re tention of urine, scanty or too frequent, etc That all skin and blood diseases, such as eczema, hives, blotches, ptmples, acne, ring worm, tetter, suit rneum, rneumatism, sotofula, etc., etc., are either caused or greatly aggravated oy tue catarrnai direc tion causing nn Impure state or the blood or debilitated condition of the body. That it is due to this widespread influence of catarrh on the general system that led Drs. Copeland, Hall and Bvers to formulate a svstem of treatment, both local and inter nal, and it is owing to this method of treat ment that they are able to produce the great number of absolute cures that 'they show. It is also i he reason or their extending tbe popular $5 rate of treatment to iucludo all chronic diseases. Drs. Copeland, Hall and Byers treat suc cessfully all curable cases at 68 Sixth ave nue.
