New Tork, July SO Trading in the stock market was light to-day, but. after a moder ately firm opening, prices yielded slightly and the final changes, except in one or two stocks, were for the usual insignificant frac tions. Biokera reported some increase In the outside demand and London had lome buying orders in the market, which, how ever, amounted to only 5.000 shares or less,' and the support given St. Paul by the Chicago contingent and Atchison by Boston houses sum up the aid prices received from outside centers. On the other hand, the traders were inclined to realize, and after the satis faction of the first demand the list slowly re tired and special weakness was developed In Sugar and Lackawanna. Sugar acted as it has for the last three days, retiring material ly In the early dealings and then rallying, but the rally to-day was feeble and the final dealings lound it without support and the decline in the stock for the day reached Vt per cent. Chicago, July 80. The half day Saturday session of the Board of Trade proved too short lor any upheaval. Fluctuations were very narrow. Wheat and corn are a hlgUer than last night, pork Sc and lard and ribs 2c At the outset wheat showed strength on predictions that the anti-option hill wonld go over till Deoember, hut the trade feared some trick at the end in get ting the bill through. Receipts here tell 100 cars below the estimate. However, on all tho strong spots there was free selling, and the receipts of new wheat at primary points were large, St. Louis having beaten the record -with 360,000 bushels or wheat there to-day. This sent the market off some, but corn showing an upturn, wheat recovered with good support. -.There -was an active demand from outside for corn when trading commenced, and at an advance of abont Hc ln its mice. The prospect of a knockout-or the anti-option bi)l was ln some measure responsible for the firm tone at tho start, but the Bulington Hallway's official crop statement and Prime's review were so flattering as to efface the slight advance and produce weak ness for a short time. Tnere was, however, at the decline an active demand, which put the price np K?i0 above where it had opened. . A fair business was transacted ln oats, with the near lutures ruling easier and tho deferred deliveries scoring a slight advanoe. .Provisions weakened a little with corn early and became firm at best prices before the close on some local buying to even up short sales. ' . Freights were slow but rates firm, owing to light offerings of boats. Bates held at 20 for wheat and ljio for corn to Buffalo. MONTHLY OIL REPORT. There Is an All Around Decrease in the Southwest Territorjt BUTLER AND ARMSTRONG ARE UP. Yery Little Chance In Eeported intbeOtber Upper Country Fields. CESSATION OP WORK AT M'DONALD The field work of the oil operators for the month of July makes a better showing than during the month of June. There is an in crease ot 18 in the number of wells com pleted in July as against Jane. In June there were only 49 wells finished up in Alleghany and Bradford, the Middle field, Venango and Clairon, and Butler and Armstrong, and in July this was brought down to 48. The Southwest had 112 completed wolls in June, and in July this was brought up to 131, an increase of 19. This increase ln completed wells has brought the new production up from 9,578 barrels in June to 10,069 barrels ln July, an increase of 491 barrels. The lnorease ln the new production has come almost altogether from the upper fields. H.ven with an Increase ln wolls ln the southwest the nnt pnt went off 210 barrels, or from 8,889 In June to 8,688 in July. This is possibly due to the big increase in dry boles in the south west territory. During the month of Jnne there were only 81 dry holes in all of the fields. 17 or which were in the Southwest, nine in Bntier and Armstrong, three ln Tenango and Clarion, two ln the middle field and none in Bradford and Allegheny. In July there was a total of 11 dry holes, 34 of which were in the South west, five ln Butler and Armstrong and two in Venango and Clarion. This shows a decrease by one-half in dry holes in the upper fields, and an increase of 100 per cent in the Southwest. 6. Increase in Cutler and Armstrong. ' Bntier and Armstrong show up strong in July in the matter of new production. It Increased from 610 barrels ln Jnne to 1,331 ln July, or an advance of 701 barrels. The operators ln these fields cleaned up 21 wells ln June, but July biought bet ter luck, lor in the last month they completed only 23 wells and more than doubled the new production. In July 5 ere dry and in June 9 dusters were com pleted. The average of the productive wens in tne jsutier ana Armstrong awiticu in June was 40 barrels, while in July it Jumped to 71 barrels. The average of the productive wells in all the fields for July is 73 ban els. In the southwest district the average in June was 93 barrels, and In July it declined to 89 barrels. The new pioductlon of Allegheny and Bradford, Vennnao and Clarion and the middle field in June was only 70 barrels, but in July it was broughtup to 103 banels, with J tin cijuai uuiuudi ux, nsiia .vu.i...wu ... ...- month. With the exoeptlon of the southwest there has been a general improvement. In the southwest the sure stuff at MoDonald has nearly all been drilled over, and during the month of July the operators have been plugging away In treaouerous territory, and many of them have been unfortunate, while others have secured only oil enough to en able thorn to get their money baok ln time. The Slstersville field bas done a great deal toward holding up the Southwest, as there have only beeu one or two dusteis finished up in that region, and there are now moie strings of tools swinging there than In other parts of the southwest. There has been an all around decline in the number of drilling wells and rigs. The total decreaso is 41. In the southwest they have dropped off from 179 ln Jnne to 112 in July, a decline of 37. This has been largely due to the cessa tion of operations in the McDonald pool. There has been little change in the upper country in new work. In the middle field there has been a slight falling off, and an inciease in Venango and Clarion. Recapitulation. Snmmary of completed wells; June. Jalr. Field. Com. Allegany., i .
