Prime Deavjr Beeves Are JCo longer Quantity in This Market SHEEF LOWER ASD SWINE HIGHER Office or TnE Dispatch, J PrrcsBciuj, WrDSKSDAf, May 11. There have been on sale at the East Liberty yards this week between 75 and 80 carloads of cattle against 00 loads lost week. Some ten loads of this week's offer ings were held over from last week. The quality of offerings was below late average. There were no strictly prime beeves on sale this week. Markets opened on Monday morning with a wide divergence of view between buyer and seller. The former insisted on an advance, because of the diminished receipts. But in spite of de crease of receipts it was found impossible to obtain any better prices than the pre vious Monday, though light tidy butcher beeves were a shade firmer, being very scarce Buyers came in more freely in the after noon of Monday, and prices advanced 10 13c xier cwt on desirable grades. On Tues day morning this advance was well main tained, and the final outcome of the week's trade showed up better to the seller than last week. Fresh cows were in liberal sup ply, but general quality was low. Choice stock was In good request at the same price as a wepk ago. Calves were plentiful, but choice vealers were In good request at a shade better prices than were obtained last week. Ho; Receipt large on Monday and lnni kets slow w ith 54 90 a ton price. Since Slontlay receipts have been light, find price have advanced 10 cents per cwt, tlinuzh Chicane urices are lower. There were ale thN morning at a nickel a pound and not enough to iro around. JSheep Receipts for the week 40 carloads. Markets ilnll anil Mow. Top price of sheep, $5 15: yearling. Cc per lb., and spring lambs ranged frtmi Gc to 10c per lb. Tlie Remarkable Western TTeather Con tinues to Get in Its 'Work on the Grain Markets Heavy Selling Orders for A licat Come From the Northwest. CHICAGO Heavy orders to sell wheat came to-day from the Xorthw est. So much of the recent bu ing has boen on account of the supposed sufferings of the native.s or that rezlon from floods and snow storms. Their indifference to the alleged deplorable condi tion of the country up there staggered the bulls and caused the wholesale throwing over of long wheat. A temporary bulgo of 2Jfcin May corn, caused by nervons shorts, was the other feature of tho day. Com pared with last night wheat this evening is. c off, while corn Is up Jic for May and y,o for July. Oats and provisions show a slight advance. The reference of the Government report to spring wheat was the only pas&age which had not boen pretty accurately forecasted. According to the report, tho nanal plowinc to May 1 is about 7G 6 of the whole spring wheat area, but this season, owine to un favorable weather, tho plowing is only 04.0. Since May 1 It has rained and snowed almost continuously, and very little farm work could be done.Thls had thejeffect of creating an unsettled feeling and a higher oponing, hut there were pretty fair offerings and prices receded, only to again advance on re ports or continued unfavorable weather in the Xorthwest, large clearances from tho seaboard and tne decrease in the stocks, as reported bv BradstreeCs, of 2,551,000 bushels east of the Rocky Mountains. The advance, however, was again met by liberal specula tive offerings credited to Northwestern onerators, and prices were carried to the lowest point. The opening was c higher than yes-terdav'i- closing, after which the market cased'off Jc, rallied c, declined c, re acted nc anu ciosea easy un tno aiternoon utuveij me cierKS were surpriseo. uy mo volume of wheat going around. There wns great uneasiness in corn during most of the session. The market again turned entirely on the weather, and as the reports were not improved the prices were at times run up pretty sharply. The situa tion was regarded as so doubtful that frw operators seemed bold enough to sell any thing llko a line short, tinders contenting themselves with selling out quickly on the bulge and gutting their profits. There wns something or a scare at tho opening, and firices were given a quick up turn. An hour ater. w hen wheat was at the tOD of the day, corn mado a second bulge and sold at the highest point of tho week for May. Tnis bulge was helped along by a lew dispatches from Western poiuts, saylnp there was more tain In prospect, ileforo the close, howevor, prices dropped back to about the oponing lbiures in sympathy witli the bleak in wheat. In oats trading wns less active than on the previous day. Everybody seemed to be pietty well evened up and disposed to hold off pending changes iu the weather. Tho business w as cnttei ed. Provisions fluctuated in response to the changes in wheat and corn. There was some covoi ing by shorts and some buying as well by packers, but nothing to indicate any great return of confidence in present prices.
