Red Lake river. In Minnesota, has over
flown its banks and is doing much damage.
Sllss Nellie McClayton, of Port Huron,
was killed by drugged canay given her by
Ben McKay, who Is now under arrest. Lynch

Tho Toronto Citv Conncil, having de
cided In favor of an electric railway system,
will send a deputation to Pittsburg and
other cities this side of the lino to investi
gate the matter.
It will be several days before theTom-

Mississippi. -Already 123 dead victims of the

Louis Harriott, the murderer of Mrs, Leon
ard, of Atlantic Highlands, was banged at

A Russian ukase has been issued pro
hibiting even the naturalized foreigners
from settling outside the towns in Volhynia
or to possess real estate in Volhynia unless
they embrace the religion of the Orthodox

European newspapers are trying to con
nect the Russian and the American negotia
tions in Southern South America for coaling
stations. Montevideo newspapers deny

Baron de Baur. tho Austrian Minister
of War, lias submitted to the Belchsrath
a proposition to strengthen tho army by
adding ten men to each company in the in
fantry regiments, and by creating two new
cavalry regiments.
Twelve of tho State troops guarding the
Coal Creek mines in Tennessee plotted to
. mutiny, overpower the guards and hang two
non-commissioned officers. One ot the
'Dirty Dozen" gave the othors away, and
the other 11 are now in chains awaiting
court martial.
A revival in tho African Methodist
Church at Corsicana, Tet, has been so suc
cessful that it lias attracted members from
other churches. This aroused so much III
fceling that someone burned the Methodist
Church and parsonage to the ground. Many
arrests have been made.
ManagerSmith.of the Australian Mercan-
tile Loan Com pan, at Sydney, . S. V., has
been sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment
for conspiring to delraud the company.
Auditor Buck, of the same concern, was
found guilty on tho same charge and sen
tenced to two years' imprisoument.
The Upper lied river is now over its

Emerson. The indications are that the dis

Englishmen representing a colony of
Britishers owning lands in the Department
of Victoria, in Southern Chile. isited their

leged that life and property weie insecure
in Southern Chile, and that six natives of
Great Britain had been murdered during
the past year.
Civil Service Commissioner Hoosevelt
yesterday started an investigation at Chi
cago ot infractions of the law prohibiting
the solicitation of campaign funds from

Bishop Atticus G Haygood.of tho Method
ist Church, of California, has telegraphed
Bev. Warren Candler, Piesident of the
Emery Church College, Oxford, Ga., to have
ai rested, if possible, lie v. Edgar Dunbar
and wife, the former being a minister in the
California Conierence, and to divest him of
his ministerial credentials. Dunbar is
charged w ith being a bigamist and the head
of several families.
Two condemned murderers at Kcir Or
gans are trying novel schemes to save their
necks. The men aie Philip Baker and Et
tienne Deschamps,who hao been sentenced
to be hanged on the 22d inst. Baker and
Deschamps yesterday made affidavit against
Neili Nelson for the murder of his wife,
claiming to have positive proof. If they
can succeed in getting a court seriously to
entertain the affidavit, they intend to apply
fora stnyot pioceedings. With the case
once roepened, they expect to have an ex
cellent chance of saving Baker's life by
creating nouot in tne minds or tne next
Boird of Pardons, even if Nelson is not convicted.
