D7ER 3,000 MEMBERS TURNED OUT. Bonsfs BrijMlj Decorated All Along the Line of March. ANOTHER DISPLAr IX THE EAST END "Washington's birthday was appropriately remembered in Pittsburg yesterday. The celebration of the day which filled the city with strangers was the parade of the Junior Order United American Mechanics and vhlle much inferior to previous parades of the order in display and numbers the turn out was creditable, about 3,SM men were in line. There was a noticeable absence of patriotism in the lower part of the city as indicated by decorations on the route of march. Few of the business honscs dis played any bunting and many were open all day taking advantage of the influx of visitors. The stores were in most cases crowded. The weather was pleasant, and not too cold for standing on the sidewalks. A noticeable feature of the crowds which thronged the streets in the lower part of the city was the large number of young men and women among them. Out along Penn avenue and Butler street there was apparent a more patriotic spirit, and most of the dwellings and business houses along the line of march ere profusely decorated with the national colors. The streets in that part of the city were thronged as they never were before and the people seemed appreciative of the honor paid them in giving them the parade. Too Many Demonstration. The parade formed on Liberty, "Water and Smithfield streets and moved down Smith field to Liberty street,, along Liberty to Tenth street and thence to Penn avenue, out which it proceeded to Lawrenceville. The eastern limit of the route was Forty-fourth and Butler streeto, and the Chiet Marshal's review was field at Fortieth street. The length of the route no doubt kept many of the Mechanics from turning out. and an other reason riven was that McKeesnort. Youngstown and manv other towns which have heretofore sent large representations to the parade celebrated the day by home demonstrations. The route of the procession was an un usual one and before it was covered many of the marchers were heartily sick of it. " In addition to the mud whichthickly covered the streets, the cable cars kept moving rapidly during the entire time and kept the lines broken and tangled all along Penn avenue and Butler street. 2fone of the larce Councils of the two cities turned out half their usual strength, and it seemed that the majority of the marchers were Irom out side the cities. The procession moved at 2 o'clock, and on account of the promptness of the Chief Marshal in starting exactly at the appointed hour there was a 15 minutes' break in the line between the first and second divisions, which was not closed up until the parade had gone out Penn avenue a considerable distance. Much ISIvalry Amonjrtlie Councils. As usual, there was considerable rivalry between some of the councils to make the finest showing. Some wore high hats and carried decorated cane's, and there was a no ticeable absence of the regulation parade cap, which broke the monotony of the uni forms. Among the councils that made the finest appearance were Invincible, Manches ter, Bainbridge, Vine Cliff, J. P. "Winowcr, Liberty Bell, Continental, Acme, Sherwood and Fulton. J. P. Winnower Council car ried a large portrait of the late Past State Councilor, for whom their couucil is name I Liberty Bell Council had six of its members attired in continental costumes and white wigs. The usual number of handsome banners were carried. Those that excited the most comment being carried by Xathan Hall, General J. B. Sweitzer, Liberty Bell, Sons of Liberty, Vine Ciiff and Continental Councils. The uniformed rank acted as escort to the parade. 'Ihomas F.
