Suits Against Seren or Them for Not MaUnj
Returns or Births.
The Bureau of Health made information
yesterday before Alderman Gripp against
seven physicians and one midwife for violat
ins the act of Assembly requiring them to
make quarterly reports of births. They
are: Drs. M. A. Arnholt. No. 1802 Carson
street? J. D. Grimes, Xo. 331 Carson street;
"V. E. Hallock. No. 5135 Fifth avenue; R.,
a Marshall, No. 124 Bluff street; D. D.
O'Brien, Second avenue, Hazelwowd; C C
Rinehart, Mobile street, Twectv-third
ward, and Elizabeth TTncapher, Thirty
fourth and Butler streets. The midwife
was Martha Kase, Twenty-fifth and Jane
streets, Southside. The lat quarter ended
January 1, but they are allowed 10 days'
grace and have now had 22 dars. The
penalty in such caes is a fine not less than
?5 and not to exceed ?25. The Bureau of
Health has always been put to a great deal
of trouble on account of the failure of all
of these returns to be sent in and hereafter
those who fail to comply with the law in
such caes w ill be sued.
Information was alo made yesterday by
the Bureau of Health aeainst Dr. J. D.
Thomas, of No. 77 Thirteenth street. South
side, for failing to make a report of an in
fectious disease. The case was that of a
child, Anna Jones, at No. 2309 Sydney
street, Southside. The child suffered from
diphtheria, which proved fatal,, and when
the death certificate was sent in the tact be
came known that the disease had not been
reported.
