or" THE PTTTSBURG ' DISPATCH, TUESDAY, JANUARY 5,' 1892. SOT SO YERT WICKED. JIcKee's Rocks People Object to the Lanaace of a U. P. Minister. CHARGE OF HEATHENISM DENIED. Tisitors From Other Haces Responsible for Disorderlj Picnics. THE TIEWS OF LEJLMXG RESIDENTS The utterances of Eev. "V. E. Pitxton at the meeting of the Monongahela Presby tery of the United Presbyterian Church on lat Tuesday, hare stirred up a hornet's neit at McKcc's liocks. It was reported of Mr. Paxton that he said there was no need to go to Kgypt to look for heathens, as the section in the vicinity of the mouth of Chartiers creek was worse than Utah; that nine murders had been committed there, and that street brawls were frequent and chicken and dog fights of almost daily oc currence. John A. McICee said he was sorry that Kev. 3Ir. Paxton had either knowingly or unknowningly slandered the Tillage. Said Mr. McKee: "I have lived here sixty years and have taken an interest in the place as long as I remember and I don't know a better behaved community, consid ering the environment in the State. An Occasional Chicken right. "Xo doubt there is an occasional chickeu fight, but the patrons are not all McKee's Ilocks. people, and besides, many eminent men have been patrons of the sport. As to murders, there have been three in half a century. One was by a man frenzied by liquor, who was in a large degree irresponsi ble. As to another, there was some doubt in the minds of some people as to whether it was really one, and the third one was an accommodative killing. "A man asked another to kill him, and he cut the petitioner's throat in pursuance of the request. As to Sunday, I do not know of a quieter place in the suburbs of Pittsburg. There is more or less drinking in all towns where there are iron works, but this one is exceptionally quiet on Sun day. The churches Presbyterian, Metho dist, Lutheran and Catholic are all largely attended, and I am glad to know thev are, and I make it a rule to help all with cash when asked, but Kev. Mr. Pax ton's language is calculated to clo:e one's purse clasps. Not a Question of locality. "'As to the disorderly picnics, we cannot be held responsible for them. I have known them to be lully as turbulent when held in the city where the police were abundant, aud it would be well to bear in mind that the grounds are not in the village, and that it does not furnish the crowds that create dis order. I thinkliev. Mr. Paxton either talked vithout proper information, or was not overly particular in his statements, and his talk is liable to doa prosperous, orderly and self-respecting community great harm and ought to be answered. There was a prize fight up the creek some time ago, but there are many other places beside -Mclvee s Jtocks that cannot consistently cast the first stone in reference to the affair, taking the Savior's ruling as authoritative." D. K. McGunncgle, Clerk of Courts, was inclined to indore what Mr. McKee said, and Elmer Hope, of the Pittsburg and Lake Erie Kailroad Company, said he thought that for a place governed almost entirely by jnoral influences, McKee's Kock's compared verv favorably with any other suburb of which he had knowledge.
