SANTA IS LITERARY.
Kaufmanns1 Sixth Animal Distribution of
Illustrated Books.
ALL THE CHURCHES REMEMBERED.
Feature Which Brings Joj to Fifty
Thousand Little Ones.
More Than S5.000 Jfow Expended in This
VTork Tho Growth of the Distribution
In Six Year Approved by the tending
Ministers The List of Recipients.
There were many presents given and
taken throughout Allegheny county yes
terdav, but there was one feature which, be
sides "giving additional brightness and joy
to the evanescent day, will be remembered
with gratitude and pleasure throughout the
entire vesr. andjll even stretcli to some
extent 'through the years which are to fol
low. The one Christmas gift which is at the
same time ueful and instructive, as well
as pleasing and ornamental, is a handsome
and entertaining book, illustrated in a man
ner to place the solid contents before the
reader in the most attractivemanner.
Yesterdav was the occasion of Kauf
manns' sixth annual tree distri
bution ot picture books to the
Sunday schools of the churches of Pitts
burg, "Allegheny and surrounding towns.
The steady growth of this noble enterprise
h-.s been truly remarkable. Six years ago
only 10,000 volumes were distributed, while
yesterday five times that number, or 50,000,
v ere required to meet the demands of the
work. Each book contains 32 pages, beau
tifully illustrated, and with neat covers.
The cost of the books cannot be less, but
"xery likelv mere than 10 cents. This
would swell the cost of this year's distribu
tion to at least 55,000.
A big amount, to be sure! Yet very
htijII in the opinion of Kaufmanns, when
they consider the result 50,000 happy chil
dren. "While these gifts were made cntirelynn
solicited, many letters have been received
from the ministers of churches and the su
perintendents of Sunday schools, praising
the methods adopted and the results se
cured. They tell of the joy with which the
children receive the presents, and the
brightness which the books cause in
many a home. The little ones them
selves express their pleasure in the most
enthusiastic language, aud Kauffmann is
to them a word synonymous with Santa
Clans. The number of "books received by
each church ranged all the way from 25 to
1.000, according to the size of the church,
and the other attendant circumstances.
Some so-called "philanthropists" seek
to connect their deeds with the greatest
yossible amount of notoriety. Xo so Kauf
manns. Thev trv to avoid it Instead of
advertising this free distribution of books
in the newspapers, they simply and quietly
nailed circular lettersto the ministers of
the churches, asking them the number of
books required for their respective Sunday
schools.
The distribution was made yesterday in
an unostentatious but pleaant manner, and
the citts were received in the same com
mendable "spirit. The following is the comJ
plete lists of the churches which were the
recipients of Kaufmanns' bounty:

ON FIRE WITH ECZEMA
'Terrible Suffering of Little Baby. Seven
Doctors and Two Hospitals Fail.
Cured by Cntlcnrs.
My baby boy, 5 months old. broke out with ec
zema. Tbe ltcnln and burning was Intense: the
eczema tpreadto his limbs, breast, fate, and head,
until he was nearly covered: his torturing agonies
were pitiable to behold: he had no peace and but
Jiiue rest uigat or nay.
He was under treatment at
different times at two hos
pitals and by seven doc
tors in this city without
the least benefit; every
prescription of the doctors
was faithfully tried, but he
rrew worse all the time.
For months I expended
about f3 per weefc for med
icines, and was entirely
discouraged. I purchased
CcncuBA, Cptictjra
Soap and Cuticuba Bk
solvixt and followed the
directions to the letter.
Relief trjui Immediate, his
BUflerlDfirs were eased, and rest and leen rjer-
mltted. - He steaany Impro ed and in nine weeks
was entirely cured, and has now as clear a skin and
is as fair a boy as any mother could wish to see. I
recommend every mother to nse it for every Baby

A DYSPEPTIC'S ARGUMENT
Is a growl, and that growl marks the limit of
argument with him. The best way to set
him to try a medicine would be to advise
against it but notice how different his tone
after using Burdick Blood Bitters.
"lhave suffered with dyspepsia for the last two
vears. Not long ago I commenced taking B. B. B.
I am now on the second bottle and I feel like a new
man. G. KNOX,
12 Sherwood ave.,
Binghainton, N. Y."
Repeated tests with uniform success prove
the fact that Burdock Blood Bitters -nill
cure dyspepsia. Tbe reason Is plain: ittones
the stomach to natural action and keeps the
slnice ways of the system free from clogging
impurities. '
I have been troubled with dvspepsla and heart
dlease for nine years and found no relief until I
tried Burdock Blood Bitters. Now I am well after
taking two bottles. MRS. ETTIE FRAZIER,

TIN
AND NEIAT YEAR'S
May. be a dull period at other
stores, but invariably is a sea
son of life and activity at
KAUFMANNS'
This trade anomaly .is accounted for by the fact that Kaufmanns, in
stead of resting on their laurels after Christmas, extend the busy season by
big and liberal reductions. While ether stores now pack away the remnant3
of their holiday goods till next year, Kaufmanns prefer to pocket a loss and
close out the balance of their holiday novelties at once. With this object
in view choice is given from everything yet left
FOR JUST HALF PRICE !
1 '
New Year's, the other day of giving and receiving, stands at the thresh
hold, making Kaufmanns great offer doubly welcome. Don't think, how
ever, that the reductions have been confined only to holiday goods. My,
no! They're only a drop in the bucket.
