A SEW EVIDENCE OP PROGRESS. 1 he Economite Focietj Keiug Frozen Out of Bearer Falls. STREET CAES LIKE HEAVENLY CHARIOTS The opening of the Iteaver Valley Trac tion Uailway yesterday was an event of al most as much importance to the people of Beaver Falls, New Brighton, Kridgcwater, Beaver and Rochester as was Stephenson's invention of the locomotive to the civilised world. There were 30.000 people who cele brated the evidence of their prosperity.each vieing with the other in an attempt to paint the brightest picture of future prospects and all uniting in the belief that all the Beaver Valley needs is a- seaboard to be Gotham's equal. Thevwere as happy as a bov with a bunch of fire crackers on the Fourth of July, and in order to still turther carry out the style of celebrating Independ ence Day, the entire vallev from the Ohio to staid, old Covenanter Geneva College, was a iield of flags living lrom every win dow, railed to everv gai.-post and tastencd to -whatever place was offered. "Welcome, Electric Railway," was seen as frequently r.s "God Bless Our Home"' in Philadelphia. It was a gala dav such as has seldom licen seen before in Beaver county, and was eo much out ol the usual that the spirits of me inuians who a century airo met death in the Beaver Vallev at the'liands or General Brady's brae band must have held a con vention of amazement when the cars of the new elcctiicroad for the first time passed over the grave of the savage warriors. An Old Settler's Dream. Xearly a hundred years ago 5Ir. T. C Gould, a wealthy farmer, who owned almost the entire Beaer Valley, conceived in his mind that at the junction of the Beavcrand ii river there would some time be a city such as Pittsburg is now. He reasoned that t'lf lay of the country was better than at the onfluence ot "the Allegheny and Monincahcla. and as a consequence h- thoNsht that "Western Pennsylva nia's citv would be where Beaver now is. The hope to outshine Fittsburg lias failed of realization, but whoever sees the energy of tile people who have made ihi :r homes on Gould's old farm and who fan1 divers field industries of as many c!psc. although not so extensive as cities .nor.no cannot help but fed certain that Fonic day the prophecy of Farmer Gould Tilth regard to the advancement of the nll-v he loved, will be fullfilled. "Where in lSOthere were lS.WO inhabitants, th mo re now 50,000. Thev live ill lite diii. tev.x towns as closely connected as IV'&biinr and Allegheny. and practically one bodv ot inhabitant". Th- first settle miM.t was made in Beater, and the march t progress has been tin the river. Tl e Lis; ten years has been a phe. omeual spurt at Beaver FjIIs, and tliMC.no now 12,000 inhabitants, where a ft w fe.iis ago there was only a small village. T i' other towns have populations as lol ' Beaver. i.j(H): Xcw Brighton, 9,0.00: K ihester, r..000, and the rest of the "0,000 isidt- of borough limits. It crosses the I nir river twice and touches all the us of tlie allev except Uocbestcr. The . . r place is easily accessible or a bridge, i n'v barricade being 1 cenl toll. As in inMing of all street railways, the en Hrise has succeeded after the usual unt ol maneuvering by capital' sts. The ; road was built in 1SS4 by the Kcono- e boci.iv and a little outside . itL It was opened on July 4 with the eclat of the day and was re- ved with almost as much jov as was the ."trie road yertcrdav. "I can't tell" you what I think. "When I came here there wasn't anything in the valley but a house or two and "a lot of woodland. It looks so funny," he con tinued with a sigh, as he glanced at the mysterious cars. "I can't help but think of a heavenly chariot when I'see it. But we won't have to pay ." cents when we get there," he added in a tone that indicated a scarcity in the number of nickles he possessed. "All that is left as it used to be is the old church and our hut. I guess they won't be changed " and just then the car started and Mr. Beddick was left standing in the street with bare head and in wondering amazement. Kcaciiing the Promised 1.3 ml. "When Beaver was reached it was like a promised land for the stockholders of the company. Everyone cheered, and to aid the thoughts of scriptural times an enter prising citizen by the name of jroses hung out a sign which read: "ilosen, the Baker, Greets You. May You Make Lots of Money." "Truly. Canaan has been reached," re marked a membeV of the party, and all were thankful. At the Court House where the public meeting was to be held, the halls of justice were filled with anxious listeners who were paying close attention to the spicy proceedings in the Hamilton divorce case. County business had to stand aside, however, and promptly at 4 o'clock John F. Dravo called the meeting to order. Speeches were made bv Major G. L. Eberhart and AV. H. S. Thomson. The former stated that the amount of capital invested in incorpo rated companies in the vallev amounts to ?6,000,000. MULT0M IX Pakvo That's our "ad" to day.
