THE OUTLOOK FOR THE COMING MONTH
The report of field operations in Uevr
York, Pennsylvania and "West Virginia for
the month of August makes a remarkable
showing. "With a decrease of one in the
number of completed wells, there is an in
crease in the daily production of 6,993 bar
rels. The average production of the 'wells
completed lias jumped from lGJf barrels in
July to 40J4 in August There is a decrease
of four in tUo total number of dry holes.
There Is also a decrease of H in the total
number of drilling wells, and an increase of
only six in the nnmberof rigs.
Taking the sontlmest district alone, how
ever, in - hich Pittsburg operators are prin
cipally interested, there was an increase of
. Jl completed wells nnd an increase in the
dailv production of 7,030 barrels. The total
S reduction of this district is given as 11,000
nrrcls. There were 13 wells completed in
the southwest, 55 of which were dry.
This would make the avcrase produc
tion of the wells about 102 oarrcls
each. There are 21S drilling nell.
the same number as in July, but the
number of rfcrs has been increased bv 22.
making the total number of rigs 89. "The
reports from Bradford and Allegheny, and
the middle field, show n slight falling off,
both in completed wells and production.
Venango and Clarion shown decrease in
completed ells, an increase of 04 barrels in
row production, and an increases of
eight dry holes. Butler & Armstrong
looms up with 1,533 barrels production, an
increase of 5 barrels: a decrease of 17 com
pleted wells and a decrease of 4 in the num
ber of dusters. There is a slight increase in
the amount ot new work in these two dis
tricts, and a decrease in new work in the
upper country.
The report as a whole Is decidedly
bearish, and the outlook for the coming
month is leaning strongly toward the same
side of tho fence. The nells in the south
t; est which are now drilling are expected to
increase the production even more than
those of the month just past.
The heavy production for the southwest is
due entirely to the developments between
southwest ilcCurdy and southwest McDon
ald. Without this territory the southwest
would be practically dead. This field is
still in its infancy, as a glance at the list of
drilling wells will show. Shaffer & Co.'s
well on tho Fanny Johnson property -Has
reported last night as through the flftli sand
and dry in that stratum. Wallace & Co.'s
well, on the Smith lot, Is showing good in
the fifth sand.
