The ring was shown and identified. Mrs. Clark asked her if sho knew where Fitzsimmons was, as lie had taken all his clothing away from her house and she wanted to know if he was coming back. Mrs. CI irk told the witness that she had been in Schnntt's store on tho day of the robbery to buy a comb, was on the street at tho time of tho robbery and that she saw Fitzsimmons as he came out of the store. On cross-examination by 3Ir. Marshall tho witness could not remember whether it was at night or day that sho had tho conversation with Fitzsimmons. She had no arrangements witli him as to her share of tho plunder. The reason she was sent to Schnntt's stoie was to keep him m the stole until it got dark. A lomance, divorce, unrequited love, mysterious disappearance and supposed sui cide, a maniage and a sewing machine were mixed up in a search instituted at the mar riage license office yesterday. Tho agent of a sewing machine company appeared at the office to ascertain whether a marriage license had been issued to a Mrs. Ida Chan dler and a man named Slocum. He piodueed a clipping from a San Fran cisco newsjiaper containing an account of the mjoteiious disappearance in Portland, Ore, of Dr. J. M. Eaton, formerly Coroner of ban Francisco He went from San Fran cisco to Portland, it was stated, where he opened an office. He was engaged to be nnincd to Mrs. Ida Chandlei, for whom lie obtained a divorce from her husband. She had gone to San Francisco, promising to re turn to Portland as soon as possible to get married. Instead, however, she wrote him that she was going Eat to lsit her brother, but would return. Two w eeks prior to the date of the item, June 25, Dr. Eaton re ceived a w tdding card lrom Pittsburg an nouncing Mrs. Chandler's marriage to a man 11 imed Mocum.
