The negotiations which hare been in progress for some weeks between the Fort "Wayne branch of the Thomson-Houston Elecric Company and the Brush Company, of Detroit, 'were consum mated yesterday. Papers will soon be signed which are in the effect of a lease of the Brush Company's plant to the great Boston syndicate. i The present organization of the Brush Company will continue, and business will be done at the old stand; but it will vir tually be a part of the Thomson-Houston combination, which is slowly but surely crushing out competition in private and also public lighting in this country. The Brush Company will be guaranteed a cer tain percentage of the earnings. The Brush Company frankly admits that this will pre vent competition in its ousiness and expen sive litigation over patents. Secretary H. i. Wilton, of the Brush Company, denies that the combination will hoist prices for electric lighting in Detroit. On the contrary, he says, the Brush Com pany will spend 5100,000 at once for new en gines, displacing the engines which they put in ten years ago, and enabling the company to give better service. Yet, he says, the ex cessive competition in this city had re duced prices lower than in any other place. HTTSBUBGEBS GET TEE CONTRACT. The Schultz Company Awarded the Con tract for the Sew Bridge. Chief Bigelow, of the Department of Pub lic "Works, and Chief Clerk Bingamen let the several contracts for that department yesterday. The most important were the bridges at Larimer avenue And over Four Mile run in Schenley Park. Both contracts were won by the Schultz Bridge and Iron Company, of Pittsburg. The price of the former is 23,750 and the figures on the lat ter, $23,763. Bcnner and Opdyke, of Phila delphia, were the only other bidders, the prices they asked being $24,517 for the Lar imer avenue structure and $23,750 for the bridge over Four Mile run. The latter bridge connects the 19 acres recently pur chased, with the main park, and will be finished by July 1. The contract for hauling 1,100 tons of water pipe was let to William McKibben at 84 cents per ton. H. C. Howard captured the contract for laying the water pipe at the fol lowing figures: Eight and 10 inch mains, 25j cents per running foot, and 4 and 6 inch mains 23?i cents per foot The contracts for fuel for this department will be let on Monday or Tuesday. . TVlHNot Stop the Glorious Fourth. Chief Bigelow declares that the Fourth of July celebration in Schenley Park will not be injured by the internal trouble at City Hall. He argues that it is a celebration of the people and not of the city officials, and all differences will be buried. A CHEAP SUIT SALE At the P. C. C. C. on Hon day.
