GOSSIP OF THE SCHOOLS,
A special meeting of the Teachers' Guild
has been called for next Saturday at the Grant
school.
Hiss Ella Leach, of the Washington
school. Has resigned. Her marriage to Mr.
William bmitn, of Main street, takes place
next Tnursaay.
The report of the school attendance for the
month of October shows that there is no de
crease in general. Some few schools hare a
decrease, but it is more than made up by the in
crease in others.
The directors of the ht Clair School have
decided to add an eight-room addition to the
Ka 2 building, which now consists of eight
rooms. The crowded condition of this school
makes this a necessity.
To-sioerow the otherwise "Bine" Monday
school programmes will pass off more pleasant
ly than usual. Perhaps the fact that it is pay
day for the teachers explains the matter. The
payroll amounts to $3&,SS7 S3, with the payroll
from one school district not yet in.
Evening schools are in session in the fol
lowing districts: Bedford, 3 teachers: Morse, 3
teachers; St. Clair. 3 tcaclieis; Soho. 4 teach
. ers; Ralston, 4 teachers; Forbes, 3 teachers;
Birmingham, 2 teachers; Allen, 1 and an assist
ant. 1 he ickersham and Humboldt districts
also bat e night schools.
The Execntive Committee of the Normal
Alumni was busy yesterday sending out over
SUO Invitations for the reception November 21.
Ibe committee had their reception scheduled
for the 14th, but as there is to be a general
session of the Teachers' Institute on that even
ing the date was changed to the 21st.
SCPEBE.TEM1E2.T8 G. Jl. PHILLIPS, Of the
Westchester Normal fachool. and Z. X. Snj der.
of Indiana, will be the lecturers at the evening
I session of the Teachers' Institute, to be beld at
the First M. P. Church. Fifth avenue, Novem
ber 13. George M. D. Eckela, T. B. Noss. and
A. E. Maltby will speak Jit the moring session.
Miss Jennie Scott, of the Bedford school,
is recovering from an attack of typhoid fever,
at ber home in Monongahela City. This is
Miss Scott's first jear as teacher in the Bedford
district, and her experience so far has been
unfortunate, as she had taught only 10 days
this term w ben she was taken ill. Miss Breeze
is the substitute during ber absence.
ALL summer tbe teachers of the North
School have been watching the growth of a big
pumpkin that took up its residence In the
schoolyard, and visions of pumpkin pie for
the whole crowd was an established idea for
Thanksgiving. But, alasl the pumpkin was
stolen last ueek. and dire would be tbe ven
geance if tbe miscreant could be f oundl
"Please come to my party and have a good
time," so read the invitation that Master Aleck
Reisfar, son of Secretary Reisfar, sent to over
60 of bis little friends, to help him celebrate his
7th birthday, which occurred yesterday. The
hours wore from 7 to 10 P. 3L His friends did
have a ood time." and Master Aleck made a
splendid host. Dancing was one of the amuse
ments. A kumbeb of Pittsburg teachers have joined
a beneScial society of Massachusetts, whose
agent was here last week. The plan looks
roseate tor the teachers, as according to the
outline they are topav in but JS9a year and
get in return J1O0 annually. This great differ
ence, it is stated, is accounted for by the reason
that many join the society and pay tho initia
tion fee. but neglect to pay the assessments as
they fall due.
Efforts to relieve the great pressure in at
tendance at tbe majority of the schools con
tinue to be made. Tho Oakland School Board.
at its last meeting, appointed a Committee on
Site to choose the most suitable location for a
proposed new building in the Fourteenth ward.
Every room in the Bellheld building is occu
pied, and the need of a ucw building in this
constantly growing district is very apparent.
It is probable that the new building will be
situated in the i icinity of .Linden Oroya

IT
Has no equal. So the bold type" says,
and so we say, boldly. We refer to our
matchless stock of Men's Suits and Over
coats. We have many times this season
asserted the fact that our display of
Men's Clothing
HAS
No equal in the State, and we reiterate
it again. We don't care which side you
view it from, either. The statement is
true of its size, it's true of its variety,
equally true of the many unique styles
which we show, and, as to price, we
know and you know, that
NO
House in this country gives the values
we do for the money. We don't see
what any man can want better in quality
or style than the perfected article in
ready-made clothing that we show, and
we know it will not pay anybody to buy
anything lower in price than the cheap
est grades , we offer. Our finest goods
are
EQUAL
to custom work at a third higher in' price.
That w6 have the larges,, -foest and
most stylish stock of. Fall and Winter
Clothing does nojupermit of any argu
ment There's no style, fabric or novelty
that you'll not find here, and we've
thousands upon thousands for you to
select from. The assortment has no
equal

ELEGANT
That's the word to apply to many of the
styles we show in our Boys' and Chil
dren's Department It is, beyond doubt,
the finest display of Clothing for the lit
tle ones we have ever made, and if you
have
BOYS
To clothe you can not only rid your
selves of a great deal of trouble in fitting
them out, but- save money into the bar
gain. Besides the usual run of staple
styles, we have many novel and original
conceits not to be seen outside of
Gusky's,
AND
xxxxlxlxxx)xxxxxxxlx1xTxTx
Our prices on them, as on the entire,
stock, places them within the reach of
people with whom money is not too
plenty. When we say you'll not see these
styles elsewhere, we know whereof we
speak, for many of the best designs we
show in our Boys' and
CHILDREN'S
Clothing were made to our order, and
we control the styles. To learn to dress
neatly is a part of a boy's education. To
get the best for the least money is a
good business lesson. And that's the
kind jf school we keep. It will pay both
you and the boys to attend our
CLOTHING
School. Come and take a lesson or two.
