""m-W: ?r&- , THE PITTSBURG DISPATCH. THURSDAY, OCTOBER - 23, 1890 - 55jP FOR WOMEN WORKERS Their Share in the Production of Exhibits at the World's Fair TO BE PROPERLY RECOGNIZED. Three Chicago Ladies Here to Inform Themselves on the Question. SIMPATHI bOUGHTFKOH LOCAL LADIES A strong effort is being made to throw a little stronger light on the share women tate in the prodnction of this world's goods. Mrs. Corinne S. Brown is one of tbree Chicago ladies who are here in this interest The others are Dr. Prances Dickenson, one of the Jew lady oculists known to fame, and Dr. Lacy "Waite, daughter of ex TJnlted States Judge "Waite, of Utah. They lorm a delegation sent to Pittsburg by the Queen Isabella Association, of Chi cago, whose object it is to bring into more harmony and touch the yarious branches of work in which women are engaged. Mrs. Brown said last evening that the associa tion would try to obtain due recognition ior woman's share in the production of all the exhibits entered at the World's Columbian exposition in '93. MUST RECOGNIZE WOMAN. The act of Congress establishing the World's Fair provides lor special recogni tion of "the exhibits produced in whole or part by female labor." The association has grounds for doubting whether some attempt will not be yet made to nave this proviso of the act excunged or amended, because of tbe objection which manufacturers have to statrne how much female labor they employ and bow they remnnerate female workers for their labor The association is bringing pressure to bear on tbe managers of the Bxposiuon to make a rule that no exhibit competing for a reward of merit which is not accompanied oy an affidavit of the number ot women employed in its pro duction, shall be entered. It desires to sbow Just what amount of female labor is expended in all tbe exhibits which (ball enter the fair. Great helo in this direction will be obtained through the board of lady managers, of whom Dr. Frances Dickenson is one. HEBE FOR INFORMATION. The ladies are here to inform themselveson tbe question of female labor, and open com munication on the subject with the various organizations. Mrs. Brown called at some of the headquarters yesterday. To-day an ap pointment has been arranged with Miss 11c Candless. one of tbe Board of Lady Managers from this State. This forenoon, at 11 o'clock. Dr. Frances Dickenson will address tbe ladies' Auxiliary to the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers on the subject. Very strong co-operation is expected from this energetic body. Mrs. Brown is well known in Chicago as a leader in all movements looking to the ameli oration and elevation of tbe workers. Sbe has (succeeded in interesting some very prominent people In tbe Winily City on the subject, among others Dr. Julia Holmes Smith, President of the Queen Isabella Association; Miss Eliza Allan fetarr. a litterateur I so small repute; Mrs. Catherine V. Wane, who is Treasurer of the association, and others. Very strong co operation is expected from ladies here who are seeking to obtain greater recognition for female workers. Among these is Miss Lilian Haller, of the Working Women's Protective Associa ion. THE DISPATCH has secured Kudyard Kipling's first Serial. The opening chapters will appear Sundaj , November 9.
