The A. M. E. Zion Chnrch Fcople Itesolre
to Remain Colored Scvrlckler Gen the
Nrxt Conference Eqanl rrlrllrccs De
mandedA LWely Session.
The morning session o! the A. M. E. Zion
conference at Avery Chnrch, Allegheny,
yesterday, vae somewhat lively, different
towns contesting for the honor of the next
conference with as much rim as did the an
cient Grecian cities for the honor of being
credited with the birth place of Homer.
Mansfield, Franklin City, Greensbnrg, Mt.
Pleasant and Sewickley all shied their cas
tors into the ring and not until tour ballots
were taken was Sewickley able to plant the
flag of victory in the ramparts and then
Chairman Snowden claimed that though
there might have been a free ballot there
hadn't been a fair count Though all the
delegates claimed tbe floor at once, Mr.
Bnowden gota chance to say that he didn't
believe Sewickley could provide the
sinews of war. He said his home, Franklin
City, could raise 100, but Broadaz Smith
raised Mr. Snowden out of his boots and
went him $400 bftter, assuring the confer
ence that Sewickley could raise ?500 if nec
essary. The music made about this time by
bands employed by the admirers of the
Prince ofOrange, who were passing, soothed
the temper of the disputants, and, when
they were brought back to business, the
cbn'ice ol Sewickley was ratified.
Rev. Mr. Holliday sprung the resolution
of Mrs. Lee, on thequcnon oi eliminating
the words "Afro," "negro" and "colored"
from all their institutions and substitnting
National American. A long discussion fol
lowed, but it was not enlhusinstlc. Mrs.
Lee, W. H. Jackson and J. T. Writt made
speeches in favor of the resolution, arguing
that by eliminating the words tne race
wonld gain n higher standing.
Kev. V. J. Watson, of Sewicklcv; .T. H.
McMullin, 01 Ohio, and Uev. G. Y. Clin
ton and ltroadux Smith opposed the resolu
tion on the grounds that each nationality
had its own title and individuality; that
their antecedents were Africa us and the
present generation should stand by and be
proud of the old country.
The resolution was lost by a vote of 23 to 5.
A recess was then taken for an hour.
Upon reassembling Mrs. J. D. Bibb, of
Harrisburg, offered n set of resolutions ask
ing that colored children be given the right
to enter Industrial schools. It was also re
solved to appeal to the authorities in power
to give the colored people rqunl rights with
the whites. The resolutions wcro patted
unanimously.
The conference will conclude Its work to
morrow. Thornton Ilro., 128 Federal ht Allegbenr.

WE
Lots on Madison avenue, size 40x100 feet, for $t,ooo, when
not 500 feet away lots that are not nearly so desirable have
been sold for $1,600.
We also offer lots on Ridge street, which is graded and
paved, for only $375 each; size 25x112 feet.
We mean what we say when we say that this is the low
est priced and best plan of lots now for sale in the center of
the city, and the parties who buy here will reap" a rich harvest.
You have had opportunities to buy in the East End at
fancy prices and with large cash payments, but here we give
you an opportunity to locate your home in the very heart of
the city, fronting one of the city parks, vith grand views,
pure air, and at about one-half the price asked in the East
End.
It will not be necessary to take much money out of your
business, as the first buyers will have the advantage of the
choicest lots in the whole plan, size 40x100 feet for a cash
payment of only $100, and the balance of the payments on
exceedingly easy terms.
The prices asked for the lots are away below their value,
but the idea is to sell a portion of the property an d then ad
vance the prices as property is improved.
