YE PATRIOTS, AWHKEI
'lis Independence Day and the

A Magnificent Programme Completed for

MA5I PEIYATE DISPLAYS BI CITIZENS.
"ETcrjbodj Enthusiastic and Prepared to Have a

Arouse, patriots! This is the Fourth of
July, the 114th anniversary of the day the
American eagle screamed so vigorously that
the British lion ignominiously tnrned tail
and fled.
You know already that this is the Fourth.
Ton were awakened by the sh-z-z-z-bing-bang
of the firecracker, and the fumes of
gunpowder mingled with the odor of your
matutinal Mocha. You may feel a little
shaky now at having your beauty
sleep broken, but when you look back at the
progress of your country and the achieve
ments of your countrymen during the past
century, and think of the millions who now
claim allegiance to the land of the starry
banner, your heart will swell with pride and
patriotism, you will cast decorum to the
winds, invest your small change in fire
crackers and proceed to celebrate the day in
a good old-fashioned way.
AT SCHEJTLEY PAEK.
There are no lack of places at which to
spend the day in a befitting manner, but
tbe hotbed of patriotism will be at Schenley

HCW TO GET THEEE.
The matter of getting to the park is of
considerable importance in view ol the fact
that so few people have as vet visited this
new feature of the city's wealth. There are
three routes. One is by the Fifth avenue
avenue traction line, if yOU g0 that wav
' yon can get off at Atwood street, take
n eiectric car on the Oakland
loop and ride to the head of the stairs which
lead to Panther Hollow, or you can get off
at Boquet street and a few minutes' walk
will bring you to the same point. The
Boquet street route is the best for persons
with children.
Another route is the Second avenue elec
tric line. It will take you to Four-Mile
run, within a short walk irom the speakers'
stand.
The third route is the Baltimore and Ohio
Bailroad, which will run trains right into
tne par ami unioaa at tne speakers' stand.
There will be signs scattered all abont to
direct tbe people to points of .interest At
11 o'clock at the foot ot Panther Hollow the
meeting will be held and the singers and
band will hold forth. On the hill, next to
the driveway, the athletic games will take
place, and just across will be the space
allotted to the privileges. Back of this,
on top of the hill, the fireworks
stand will be located. In this vicinity the
Great "Western and Cathedral Bands will be
stationed. The Select Knights Band will
be located at the head of Panther Hollow,
near the menagerie. Chief Brown will have
police quarters here, while Mayor Gourley,
Chief Bigelow and the press will have quar
ters at the loot of the Hollow.

carefully before leaving them.

relief of policemen will go on duty at 10
o'clock, four hours earlier than usual, and
will stay out until 1 o'clock to-morrow
morning. The night relief will go on duty
at 2 o'clock this afternoon and stay until 6
to-morrow morning. A large number of
special men will be on patrol duty all over
