EIGHT MLLIQNS IN IT. Wrought Iron Pipe Manufacturers Form a Sew Organization TO CONTROL OIL COUNTRY TRADE. The Amalgamated Association Searing an Adjournment. EAILWAI EMPLOYES WANT MOEB PAI An important meeting of men represent ing 14 of the most prominent wrought iron pipe manufacturers in the United States was held at one of the city hotels yesterday, for the purpose of organizing what is to be known as an oil country organization, to op erate in conjunction with the Wrought Iron Pipe Manufacturers' Association. The Pittsburg firms represented were the Pitts burg Tube Company, the national Tube "Works Company, the American Tube and Iron Company, the Pennsylvania Tube Company, the Oil City Tube Company and A. M. Byers & Co. There were several Eastern manufacturers represented, and the total capital represented was not less than 55,000,000. The meeting was a secret one, and although the people who attended It were averse to saying much about It, It was learned that a permanent organization was effected and and officers elected. In explaining the objects of the organization, one gentleman who was present said: "It is in tended to prevent irregularities and to preserve such commercial conditions in tbe trade as may he needed by tbe manufacturers." Ee denied tbat there was any intention to form a trust or even a combination to keep np prices. Those in tbe new association will nave sole charge of tbe oil country trade. It is claimed tbe busi ness can be bandied more satisfactorily through an organization of tbe character proposed, and tbat tbe oil country trade, being of local inter est, can be controlled better than if it were re ferred to the Manufacturers' Association. Tbe new organization will have headquarters in Pittsbnrg, as this is tbe recognized center of the oil and gas trade, ft will be composed en tirely of manufacturers, their representatives and agents. It will be conducted on the plan upon which a similar one was operated in tbe oil country, which gave satisfactory results, some years ago. Tbe manufacturers who at tended yesterday's meeting are enthusiastic over tbe matter and are hopeful that toe new enterprise will be a great benefit to them. Others who were not tbere have indorsod tbe plan and expressed their intention ol co operatinc with the association. Since tbe opening up of so much new oil ter ritory tbe wrought iron Dipe trade has in creased very rapidly. Tbe busineo has become so voluminous that tbe manufacturers think It will be to their advantage to place their in terests in tbe hands ol an organization. An other meeting will be held within a week or so, when the organization will be made more perfect. MAY CLOsStffi SESSION TO-DAY. The Amalgamated Association la Nearlng , nn Adjournment, There is a possibility of the Amalgamated Association being able to adjourn to-day. It is certain the session will not last over to-morrow. The delegates are getting very tired of the warm weather, and tbey are anxious to get awav. The report of the Ways and Means Committee was heard and disposed of yester day. The report of the Committee on Officers' Reports will be taken up this morning, and, if President Weihe's recommendations are not too numerous, the election of officers, which is tbe last item on the order of exer cises, may be reached before adjournment to day. "WANT MOEE WAGES. Miners of Phillipsbnrc nnd Osceola Present Their Demands. Tbe miners of the Phillipsburg. Beech Creek and Osceola districts have formulated and pre sented to the operators of those districts a Ecale of dead work and a conference will be held on Knday. The principal points of tbe scale ask: That all cars holding a ton or more be hauled from and returned to the working lace of the mine. For less than a ton. tbe miners do tbe pushing, but receive extra at the rate of 5 cents per ton. Cross-bars. 25 cents per ban air courses, 50 cents per yard; headings, $1 per yard: room turning, $3. i ,, The Demon of Ibettlnrsb, The evil spirlttbat hovers about stagnanfrpools and inundated lowlands is no materialized bogey, no phantasm of a disordered imagina tion, but a power of evil far more mallcnant than any familiar anathematized by Cotton Mather. It Is malaria, which has for its de structive progeny fever and ague, bilious re mittent and dumb ague, conquerable with Hostetter'B Stomach Bitters, as are dyspepsia, constipation, liver complaint, etc. . THE HOME FOR COLORED CHILDREN. An Appeal From tbe Managers to a Generous Pnbllc Perhaps but few charitably disposed peo ple in Allegheny or Pittsburg are aware of the existence of the Home for Colored Des titute Children, one of the few institutions in the country devoted to this good work. Indeed we may further say that with tbe exception of a similar home in Philadel phia, we know of no other in the State. This " Home " is situated at the foot of Greenwood aTenue, Allegheny, and was established for the maintenance, education and training of needy colored children. Tbe institution was organized in 1880, and for seven years depended entirely upon a few friends who contributed to its support. Three years ago tbe State recognized the usefulness of the Home, and since then has appropriated a small amount yearly. For some years a portion of the " Avery Fund " was given to us for the needs of the chil dren, but two years ago it was withdrawn lor use in a training school. We care for from CO to 60 children in tbe Home, whose ages range from 1 year to 12. While with us tbey are taught the rudiments of a com mon school education, and are also trained in housework. We try to find suitable homes for the children when 12 years old. but in case we cannot succeed we are obliged to ketp them longer. Owing to want of means we have been compelled to refuse admission to a number of worth v applicants. We are told that the Colored Home has not been properly placed before the public, and that manrliberal people have not hitherto known of its existence nnd the good that is being done. We regret that this should be so, and can now only hope that all good people interested in the work will visit ns or otherwise investigate our methods and aimt. We shall be pleased to receive any nwuiuuuoiii ironi our irienas. Donations may be sent to the Treasurer, Mrs. R. Mon roe, 174 Sheffield street, or the President, Mrs. Ormsby Phillips, 344 Ridge avenue, Allegheny. The Boaed of Managers. LEGAL IiOTICEs. S. H. GEYER. Attorney at Law, 118 Diamond street.
