THIRTY NEW DISTRICTS Added to the City Map vbr the Special Commissioners. The commissioners appointed by the Qnarter Sessions Conrt to redistrict the wards of the city yesterday filed their report in court. Ac companying the report wero neat little maps of every ward showing in red boundary lines every election district in each ward. The com missioners stated that changes were made in order to keep vote in all districts within the constitutional limits, to wit: 250 votes. The commissioneis, in creating new districts, at tempted to provide for the future growth of the voting population, and believed that no further change in the creation of new districts will be necessary for a number of years to come. The wards in which no changes were made received carefnl attention, and in the opinioi of the commissioners the division now in force in them waB the best that could be made. As far as possible, polling places were designated for the several districts. In the Second ward chances were made in the lines of the First and Second districts. Changes were made in the lines of the Second and Fourth districts ot the Fifteenth ward, and in the Twenty-first ward a part of the First district was added to- the Fifth district. Changes were also made in the First and Third districts of the Thirty-first ward. The follow ing wards bad new districts added to them: Sixth ward, one new district; Eleventh ward, one; Thirteenth ward, two; Fourteenth ward, five; Sixteenth ward, two; Seventeenth ward, one; Eighteenth ward." one; Nineteenth ward, three: Twentieth ward, five; Twenty-third ward, two; 1 Wenty-fonrth ward, one; Twenty fifth ward, one; Twenty-sixth ward, one; Twenty-seventh ward, two; Thirtv-first ward, one; Thirty-fifth ward, two. To My Old Army Comrades. In the late war I was a soldier in the First Maryland Volunteers, Company G. During my term of service X contracted chronic diarrhcea, since then I have used a great amount of medicine, bnt when I found any that would give me relief they would injure my stomach, until Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy was brought to my notice. I use it, and will say it is the only remedy that gave me perma nent relief, and no bad results follow. I take pleasure in recommending this prep aration to all of my old comrades, who, while giving their services to their country, contracted this dreadful disease as I did, from eating unwholsome and uncooked food. Tons K0 DANGEB FK0M FIRE OR CONCUSSION A special train pulled out from the Union depot yesterday morning with a number of contractors on board. The pirty was bound for Baker's station, on the Ligonier Valley road, to witness an exhibition of the won derful explosive, emmensite, given by Messrs. Garland, Powell & Co., at the quarries of Booth & Flinn. After the party arrived and divested themselves of their outer garments, previous to ascending the inountain"-for the day was terribly hot and after some exertion the hill was at last successfully ascended, the party sought the shade of the trees anilis tened to Dr. Emmens son explain the good Qualities ot the explosive. He gave several tests to prove that the powder would not be exploded bv concussion or heat About an ounce of powder was placed on a shovel and a match applied to it. There was no explosion, as some expected, bur the ponder began to burn very slowly, and continued to burn while the Are was put to it, but immedi ately went out after the match was withdrawn. Sir. Emmens then put an ounce of the powder on a piece of iron and struck it several blows in succession, which had no effect on the powder. He then placed four sticks of the emmensite against a tree and fired a rifle at it. The ball penetrated the powder, but did not ex plode, to the amazement of the spectators. Tbirty-nve sticks of the stuff were next dropped into a hole 19 feet deep and 2 inches wide. A fnlminating cap was inserted into one of the yellow sticks of powder, and this was at tached to an electric battery. At a given sig nal the handle on the battery box was raised by one of the workmen, and there followed a most terrific explosion. A massive blue rock weighing at least 50 tons was displaced by the emmens'te. A charge was then placed In nine different holes, each 12 feet deep, and they were ex ploded simultaneously, blowing up the side of the bill for 50 feet, an average depth of 12 feet, A test was then made on the snrface of a large rock. One ounce of the emmensite was placed on the rock and exploded, splitting the huge boulder In twain. A test was made then with dynamite, and it took five ounces to crack the rock in the same way. The manner in which gelbite was ex ploded was next shown. This is nothing but an ordinary piece of paper placed in a solution of emmensite. This paper was wrapped up and inserted into the shell of a cartridge, with a small fulminating cap on the end. This was placed in a revolver and discharged in the same way as a cartridge loaded with powder. 1h patty then descended the hill and partook of refreshments that had been provided for the occasion and afterward returned to the city. Every person was satisfied that this new pow der was "the thing." In speaking of the ex plosive a prominent contractor said: "I think that this new powder will be adopted uni versally for blasting purposes and for an im plement of warfare." The Enclisb government is now negotiating with Dr. Emmens to manufacture a large sup ply of the powder to be used for experiment ing.
