The Seamen's Friend Societj May Bnild a Boat to Ply the Kiver. AN ADDITION TO THEIR HOTEL Three Stories to be Added to the Building on Dnquesne Way. WHAT PITTSBOKG'S BRANCH IS DOING A meeting JBf the Board of Directors of the Pittsburg branch orthe "Western Sea men's Friend Society was held in the par lors of the Home Hotel yesterday morning; It was decided to bnild three additional stories to the new building on Dnquesne way adjoining the hotel. The work will cost in the iieighboihood of $10,000. The members of the Executive Committee were ordered to go ahead with the work, and hare it completed as soon as possible. The improvement is to famish additional ac commodations to the institntion. The "Western Seamen's Friend Society is the chartered name of the Home Hotel. Among the members of the board of direct ors are the following named well-known gentlemen: Controller E. S. Morrow, Felix B. Brunot, Benjamin Thaw, "W. B. Thompson, FranK Semple, Robert "Ward rop, J. P. Hanna, D. K. Bushnell, B. P. "Wallace, "W. A. Herron, B, C. Miller, C. L. Rose and George . McCagne. THE HOME SELF-SUrrOBTING. The Pittsburg institution is not only self sustaining, but it contributed $600 annually to the parent organization in Cleveland. The house ot the society was established in this city to take care of any destitute river men. When it was located here the Alle gheny Valley Ra ilroad was not built, and hundreds of lumbermen came down irom the region each week on rafts. Very often they would strike town without money and fonnd refuge in the Seamen's Home. The home now maintains a bethel department for men who are known to be "playing in tough luck." The Poard of Directors has also nnder ad visement the idea of having a steamboat bnilt for the purpose of plying the Monon gabela river and holding religious services on Sunday at the mouths of the different coal pits. The scheme has been extensively talked of, and as soon as sufficient money can be secured the boat will be bnilt It will be lowed to the head waters of the Monongahela and thence floated down the stream to the different landing places. MISSIONS AT COAIi PITS. It is the intention to hold services at as many points as possible, and at each place establish a mission and a Sunday school. About three or four men, it is stated, will be enough to run the boat. A minister, noted more for his exhorting powers and the range of his voice than his elocutionary abilities, will be engaged to conduct the services. It is expected that much good will be accom plished in a religious way by the use of the boat. The expenses of the vessel will be met bv popular subscription. There is a debt of about $2,000 on the hotel now. and it will have to be mortgaged again to pay for the addition. The property of the society in this city is worth about $50,000. The new addition will have a pressed brick front, with stone trimmings. Special Hnt Snle This Week Only. Our stTlish new shapes and colors of hats.
