AN ORDINANCE-ESTABLISHING THE
grade of Hoffers alley, Irom Roberts street
to Overblll street
Section 1 Be It ordained and enacted by the
city or Pittsburg, in Select and Common Coun
cils assembled, and it is hereby ordained and
enacted by tbe authority of the same. That the
erode of the center line of Hoffers alley, from
Roberts street to Overhill street be and tbe
same is hereby established as follows, Yiz.: Be
ginning at the east curb of Roberts street at an
elevation of 233.0 feet; tbence rising at the rate
'of 5.81'feet per 100 feet for a distance of 193.46
feet to the west building line of Overhill street
at an elevation of 265.2 feet; tbence falling at
.the rate of 4 feet per 100 feet for a distance of 9
feet to the west curb line of Overhill street at
an elevation of 264.84 feet
Section 2 That any ordinance orpart of ordi
nance conflicting with the provisions of this
ordinance be and the same is hereby repealed
so far as the same affects, this ordinance.
Ordained and enacted into a law In Councils
this 31st day of March, A. D. 1890.

AN ORDINANCE GRANTING UNTO
the Pittsburg Union Passenger Railway
Company, its lessees, successors and assigns,
the right to enter upon and to use and occupy
certain streets and highways, and to use elec
tricity as a motive power, ana to lease its fran
chises and property, or either.
Section 1 Be it ordained and enacted by the
City of Pittsburg, in Select and Common Coun
cils assembled, and it is hereby ordained and
enacted by the authority of the same. That tho
Pittsburg Union Passenger Railway Company,
its lossees, successors and assigns shall have the
right, and is hereby authorized to enter upon
the following named streets and highways, to
wit: Beginning at a point on Its main line at the
intersection of Penn avenue and Fifth street:

thence along Fifth street to Duquesne way, and
thence along Duquesne way to the intersection
thereof with Sixth street, and uoon the said
streets and highways to construct and maintain
an extension or branch of Its railway with
double tracks or with single tracks, with the
necessary sidings, turn-outs and switches, and
to operate cars over and along the same.
And said company. Its lessees, success
ors and assigns shall also have the right,
aud is hereby authorized to use elec
tricity as a motive power, and to erect, main
tain, operate and use an overhead electric sys
tem, for the supply of motive power, and to
erect, maintain and use In thostreots and high

From a point on Fifth avenue, near Market
street; thence along Fifth avenue to Liberty
avenue; thence along Liberty avenue to Fifth
street: thence along Fifth street to Penn avo
nuc; thence along Penn avenue to Water street,
and thence along Water street to the Union
bridge, and also in and along the streets and
highways included in the extension or branch
of It railway aforementioned, such posts, poles
or other supports as said company may deem
convenient for tbe support or maintenance of
such overhead system, and all of the rights and
privileges granted by this ordinance shall bo

eral ordinance of the Councils of the city of
Pittsburg, entitled "A general ordinance re
lating to tbe entry upon, over or under, or the
use or occupation of any streot, lane or alley or
any part thereof, for any purpose, by passenger
or street railway companies, or by companies
operating passenger or street railways, and
providing reasonable regulations pertaining
thereto for the public convenience and safety,"
approved the 25th dav of February, A. D. 1890.
Section 2 Tbe said Pittsburg Union Passen
ger Railway Company shall have tho right and
consent is hereby given to said company to
lease its property and franchises or any part
thereof to any incorporated traction or motor
power company which may desire to operate
the railway of said company, and it shall havo
the right to connect its track with tho tracks of
other passenger railway companies which it
shall cross or join.
Section 8 The said Pittsburg Union Passen
ger Railway Company shall pave with block
stone the space between its tracks and one foot
outside thereof along such portions of its route
as are not now paved.

Section 1 Be it ordained and enacted by the
city of Pittsburg in Select and Common Coun
cils assembled, and it is hereby ordained and
enacted bv the authority of the same. That the
grade of tbe south curb of Madison street, from
Thirty-third street to Jefferson street, be and
the same is hereby re-established as follows,
viz.: Beginning at tbe east curb line of Thirty
third street at an elevation of 369.23 feet; thence
rising at the rate of 6$ feet per 100 feet for a
distance of 386.71 feet to a P. C. at an elevation
of 394.39 feet: tbence bv a concave parabolic
curve ror a distance or ISO reet to a P.T.atan ele
vation of 406.76 feet; thence rising at the rate of
10 feet per 100 feet ior a distance of 4S0.66 feet
to the west curb line of Clarissa Btreet at an
elevation of 454.83 feet; thence rising at the rate
of 6 feet per 100 feet for a distance of 30
feet to the east curb line or Clarissa

grade or tbe west curb of Kirkpatrick street,
from Center avenuo to Reed street, bo and tbe
same is hereby established as follows, viz: Be
ginning at the south curb or Center avenue at
an elevation of 29129 feet; tbence rising at tbe
rate of 1 foot per 100 feet for a distance of 27
Ieet to a point at an elevation of 29158 reet;
thence rising at the rate or 6.41 feet per 100 feet
for a distance of 423.72 feet to a P. C. at eleva
tion of 32L98 feet; tbence by convex parabolic

nue. Whereas, It appears Dy the petition and affi
davit on file in tbo office of tbe Clerk of Coun
cils that one-third in interest of the owners of
property fronting and abutting npon the said
street have petitioned the Councils of said city
to enact an ordinance for the grading, paving
and curbing of the same; therefore.
Section 1. Be It ordained and enacted by the
city of Pittsburg, in Select and Common Coun
cils assembled, and it is bereby ordained and
enacted by the anthority of the same. That the
Chief of the Department of Public Works be
and Is hereby authorized and directed to ad
vertise in accordance with the acts of Assem
bly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and
the ordinances of the said city of Pitts
burg relating thereto and regulating

AN ORDINANCE-GRANTING TO THE
Pittsburg, Allegheny and Manchester
Traction Company the right to enter upon,
occupy and use certain streets, lanes, alleys
and highways, and to lease tbe property and
franchises of certain passenger and street rail
way companies, or eltuer, and to construct and
operate orelther, bytneans of electricity or oth
erwise, passenger or street railways, or either.
Section 1 Be it ordained and enacted by the
city of Pittsburg, In Select and Common Coun
cils assembled, and it is hereby ordained and
enacted by the anthority of the same, That the
Pittsburg, Allegheny and Manchester Traction
Company shall have the right, and is hereby
authorized, to enter upon any and all streets,
?,es; alIeys or highways or parts thereof upon
which any or all .ot the following named
passenger or street railway companies,
to-wit: The Pittsburg. Allegheny and
Manchester Passenger Railway Company
and the Pittsburg Union Passenger
Railway Company now are or may be hereafter
constructed upon, procuring tbe consent of
said passenger or street railway companies re
spectively and make, construct, maintain ana
operate thereon snch motors, cables, electrical
or other appliances and necessary or conve
nient apparatus and mechanical fixtures by
means of an overhead electric system or other
wise, as said Traction Company may at any
time or times select, and as will provide for tho
traction of cars over the railways of said com
panies or any of them, and if said Traction
Company sball determine to use electricity as a
motive power, to place, erect, maintain and use
in, on and along snch streets, lanes, alleys or
highways, or parts thereror, on or over which tbo
railways of the said passenger or street railway
companies, or any of them now ore or here
after may be constructed, su:h poles, posts,
supports or other devices as the said Traction
Company may from time to time select for
the support or maintenance ot any overhead or
other system, and if said Traction Com
pany sball at any time determine to use
cable or other kind of power or any
other means or'system for the supply or appli
cation of power, it shall bavo the right to con
struct, maintain, operate and use, in, on, under
or along tbe said streets, lanes, alleys and
highways, or parts thereof, such conduits or
sub-ways, and such cables or other devices as
It may select, for tho application or supply of
power, anil it sball at any time or times have
tho right to change its kind of power or system
for the application or Bupply of power and the
said Traction Company bliall also have all tbe
rights and privileges herein given in. on. nnder.
over and. along such streets, lanes, alleys or
highways as it may traverse or ocenpy in order
to connect with the power house or houses of
said company.
Section 2 The said Traction Company shall
have tbe right, and consent is hereby given to
said company to lease tbe property rights and
franchises of any and all of the aforementioned
passenger and street railway companies which
tbe said Traction Company may desire to oper
ate and tbo said Traction Company shall have
tho right and is hereby authorized to construct
and maintain and operate, or cither, tho rail
way of each and every of the said companies
from which it shall secure a lease or enter into
a contract with for the supply of motive power.
Section 3 All the rights and privileges
hereby given or granted are nnder and subject
to tbe terms and provisions ot a general ordi
nance of Councils of tbe city of Pittsburg, en
titled "A general ordinance, relating to the en
try upon, over or under, or the use or occupa
tion of any street lane or allev. or anv part
thereof, for any purpose bv passenger or street
railway companies or by companies operating
passenger or street railways and providing rea
sonable regulations pertaining thereto for ths
public convenience and safety," approved the
25th day of February, A. D. 1890, and the rights
and privileges by this ordinanco given or
granted shall cease or determine only upon
tbe expiration of the charters of the said pas
senger and street railway companies respec-
Section 4 The said traction company, in
consideration of the privileges hereby granted,
shall, within 30 days after the passage and ap
proval of this ordinance, by a writing executed
under its corporate seal, duly attested by tbe
proper officers of said company, and to be filed
in the office of the City Controller, bind itself
that there shall be expended In good faith
within two years from date of tbe passage and
approval of this ordinance not less thantwelve
thousand five hundred dollars (512,500) per mile
in paving with block stone in manner as pro
vided in the aforesaid general ordinance, each"
and every mile of single track of any of the
street railway companies enumerated in sec
tion one of this ordinance, and which shall be
operated by or upon which motive power shall
te supplied by the said traction company, and
which is not now paved.
Section 5 That any ordinance or part of or
dinance conflicting with the provisions of this
ordinance be and the same is bereby repealed
so far as the same affects this ordinance.
