Hurley were drunk, and Moran was cut on the
hiad vithaknife. Murphv and Hurley deny
any knowledge of the murder. Moran leaves a
widow and tuo children.
Intelligence has been received from Cabul,
the capital of Afghanistan, that a revolution
against Abdurrahman Khan, the Ameer, has
broken out in that country. Among those con
cerned in the report were a nnmber of the
courtiers of the Ameer. Several of them were
captured by the troops who remained lojal,
and were beheaded by the order of the Ameer.

A Large Number of Cases Bransht Before

Councils Committee on Claims met yes
terday afternoon and considered the follow
inir cases favorably: J. C. Duffy, of the
Fourteenth ward, asked to be refunded for
overpaid water tax in 1888; petition of
William Barckley, who paid a double as
sessment on his property in the Twenty-first
ward during the years' 1S87, 1888 and 1889;
Mrs. Adam Rulin, Twenty-seventh ward,
overpaid property tax; Alexander Erskine,
Thirteenth ward, overpaid property tax;
George A. Schuable, Twelfth ward, asks
for the refunding of taxes paid
on property that did not exist:
J. TV. Friend asked for the exoneration of
business taxes against Graff, Bennett & Co.
Tor the past two years, as such a firm does
not exist; W. E. Tuslin, Fourteenth ward,
petitions to be exonerated for overpaid
taxes; George T. Tomer, Twentieth ward,
wants to be paid back taxes paid twice on
the same property bv mistake; John
O'Toolc, Eighteenth ward, wants taxes re
funded which he paid by mistake on prop
erty belonging to a man of the same name
in the Twentieth ward; "W. A. Wallaker,
Twelfth ward, petitioned for exoneration
from assessed bnsiness tax, his business
being assessed at $15,000 when in reality it
was only 1,500; J. "W. Reed, Sixteenth
ward, asked to have $14 refunded as over
paid business taxes.
A FATAL LANDSLIDE.
Three Persons Killed nnd Qnito a Number
Srrlouslr Injured.
Tkot, N". Y., March 13. A calamity, re
sulting in the death of three persons, oc
curred in the lower part of the city at 3
o'clock this morning. Tons of clay and
moistened earth swept down "Warren's Hill
and carried before it a double brick house,
situated on the cast side of Havcrman's ave
nue, about 100 feet south of "Washington
street. The occupants of the house were 1G
in number. The killed are:
MRS. JOHAXXA HOGAX, aged 40 vears,
widow.
MRS. MARY 'OONAN, her mother, aged 88
a ears.
ANNIE BURNS, grandchild of Patrick Can-
Held, aged 11 J cars.
One of the most singular features of the
disaster is the fact that all the persons in
the building who were not killed outright,
succeeded in extricating themselves lrom
the mortar, bricks and timber unassisted.
Before help had arrived they xrcre safe on
the street, mingling with the crowd and
helping in the search lor the buried bodies.
The clay bank is hundreds of feet high,
towering at an angle ot 45 from the dwell
ings on Haverman's avenue.
