JOHNSTOWJf, August 16. Since the
Board of Inquiry has closed tht registration
they hare been giving their whole time to
classifying those lately registered, and it is
expected that orders to all entitled to them
in the first distribution will be given out
within a few days. Secretary Kremer has
given notice that he will quit cashing or
ders after to-morrow evening, and those
who do not present them by that time will
have them carried over to the next distribu
tion. Those in class 6, who received nothing in
the first distribution, are now being called
up and sworn to their losses and inafewdays
the full statement of qualified losses will be
completed. In the meantime the clerks
will enter everything in tabulated form, and
it will be some time belore tne money win
be forthcomin?. Secretary Kremer and

Captain McClelland went np to South Fork
and intermediate points along the railroad
to-day to examine into the eondition of
things.
The total number of Hughes houses
erected to date is 231, and the balance of
400 is promised by the middle of Septem
ber. Contractor Hughes is ill at his home
in Bellefonte with the lew. Secretary
Kremer has been highly congratulated for
the rapid manner in which the work is done
here, it being stated that there is no insti
tution in the county that could have paid
out $400,000 and made the records that have
been kept here in the same length of time.
ILL WITH A STEANGE DISEASE.
Thirty Persons Stricken Down In a Lebanon
County Villaee.
UEwarANSTOWx, August 16. There is
an epidemic prevalent in this village which
is puzzling the physicians. A number ot
persons are in a very serious condition, the
symptoms being violent vomiting, high
fever and dysentery. Thirty persons are
confined to their beds, and at one time 45
were ill. The population of this place is
only about 350, and there is consequently
considerable alarm. One death has 00
curred Daniel Robinson, a single man.
aged 22, who died after a few days' painful
illness.
Among those afflicted was Dr. Amos B,
Hagenman, the village physician, bnt he
has recovered sufficiently to attend to his
patients. In some families as many as four
persons are down with the disease. The
cause of the epidemic is unaccountable. The
village has excellent drainage and a good
water supply. There is a public well,much
used, and there was a suspicion that poison
had been thrown in it, but persons who
have not used the water of the well are
among the afflicted.

"Wheeling, Augustl6. About 7 o'clock,
this morning the towboat William Bonner,
owned by Charles Jutte & Co., of Pittsburg,
caught fire while en route up the stream,
and was totally destroyed. The boat had
been lying at Bellaire up to Thursday night
on account of the low water. Her crew
name down that evening, and about 5 o'clock
this morning the boat cast off and started up
stream with two barges in tow.
The fire broke out when she reached the
mouth of Bush run, ten miles north of this
city. The boat was headed for the Ohio
shore, which was reached in time to allow
all the crew to escape, but nothing could be
done to save the vessel, which burned
rapidly. The loss is about 13,000.

Youngstown, August 16. Something
of a sensation was caused here this after
noon by the Bridgewater Gas Company,
of Bridgewater, Pa., shutting ofl the
supply of natural gas from the Home
Gas Fuel Company, which has a
large number of consumers through
the city. A. B. Cornell, Manager of the
Home Company, said they had been notified
by the Bridcewater Company that the gas
would not be supplied alter this wee'k, but
it was not expected that it would be shut oft
to-day.
The Home Company has been making
experiments here in manufacturing gas
from oil that have been successful, and
expects to supply its customers in a short
time with that article.

picnic held near here yesterday a free fight
occurred, during which Sherman Price shot
A. G. Sargent, H. S. Sargent and Daniel
Sargent and stabbed James Aldertou. John
Price, Sherman's father, came on the
grounds under the influence of liquor, and
announced he was the best man present.
Some one, said to have been one of the Sar
gent boys, knocked the old man down,
whereupon his son drew a revolver and
knife and sailed in.
He shot A. G. Sargent squarely in the
mouth, the ball coming ont the back, of his
neck, and Aldertou was stabbed in the
back, near the spine. Both men were dan
gerously hurt. The others were not seriously
injured.

The Pennsylvania Company, which
operates this road, has been greatly an

In case Sarah Harvey shall refuse to educate
her daughter (if she has one) in a convent, the
$50,000 is to go to furnish a library for StPaul ;
University at Orange. N. J. The recipient of
this unexpected fortune is now 19 years 01a.

Walker, who died while on a salmon fishing
trip at Gasps, Quebec, last evening, had ful
filled in a remarkable manner' the wish he ut
tered when bis friend. Sir John Rose, of Lon
don, England, dropped dead in the act of firing
at a stag In Scotland a few years ago. Colonel
Walker then said at the clnb here: "When my
time comes I hope I may be catching a 25
pound salmon."
