iff 1 ' -i 8" -!....'.., 1 5? 8 fcM. ! " -I. .. , I THE PITTSBURG 'DISPATCH, SATURDAY, JULY 13, "fQQO r TWENTT-FIYE YEARS. The Silver Wedding Anniversary of Kev. Dr. and Mrs. McMillan AT THEIR CHURCH IN ALLEGHENY. A Whole Congregation Present as Guests of the liridal Couple. A SILVER COIN FROJI EACH AS A GIFT The Second TJ. V. Church, Stoctton ave nne and Sandusky street, Allegheny, has been the scene of many a happy wedding, and its pastor, Eev. Dr. "W. H. McMillan, has officiated at the ceremonies that have joined together more than one young couple, but it is doubtful if a more happy or pleasanter scene has been enacted in the church, or if the pastor and his wife have experienced the same sensations within its walls, as when they were surrounded last night by a large congregation of old and young, and con gratulated as a bride and groom of 25 years. THE TABLES WERE TURNED. The welder of holy bonds was placed back in memory to the time when he stood at the altar as an actor in a ceremony the like of which bad many times since been performed by himself. The arrangements for the silver wedding wcro made by the ladies of the congregation. The Sunday school room bad been beautifully decorated with flowers and tropical plants: a lemonade fountain being hidden here by ferns and trailing vines: a group of plants there; the whole conirhning to enhance the beauty of the scene and form a brilliant setting for the scores of wedding guests who hovered around the bride and groom of a quarter of a century ago. Soon a band near the platform filled the air with wedding strains, and the attention of tho guests was attracted to Rev. Dr. Heed, of the First United Presbv tcrian Church, Pittsburg, who in a lew re marks, half in jest and half in earnest, pre sented the pastor and nis wife with a beauti ful chafing dish of oxidized silver and filled with silver coins, representing about $500. THE APPROPRIATE IMPRINT. On the dish were engraved the dates 1S64 and 1SS9 and a monogram. A set of silver oyster forks, from Prof. Morrow, Superintendent of Allegheny City Schools, and Air. Caldwell was also presented. Rev. Dr. W. J. Robinson accepted the gifts. The couple were then escorted to the bridal table, on which was a large wedding cake, its crest linelv wrought in a pretty design. Rev. Dr. Reed and wite and Rev. Dr. Robinson and wile also sat at the table. Placed around the different rooms were small tables with bowls of flouerson each, and around these the guests sat and partook of the wedding dinner. Rev. Dr. McMillan has been pastor of tho Second United Presbyterian Church for 17 )eirs.andin that time has gathered around him many friends and a large congregation, as was evinced by the tokens of regard shown linn and his co-worker, Mrs. McM.llan, at the ovation tendered tbem last night. And per haps tho occasion will be looked back to by the pastor and his wife with pleasant remem brances until the wedding date is more than doubled. LIKE THE CAROLINA GOVERNORS. A 19tU Anniversary Reunion With a Long Walk Between Drinks. A little entertainment was held at the resi dence of Alderman Rodgers, on Main street. West End, yesterday, in honor of John Lowrie, an old resident of Cbartiers township. For the past 19 years Alderman Rodgers and Mr. Lowrie have interchanged visits on Orange men's day to celebrate. In connection with tho visit yesterday the Alderman said: "Lowrie and I are greatly dis appointed to-day, for it is the hrst time in the last 19 years that we cannot get a drink in the West End." A SILVER WEDDING. Captain Adam Jacobs and Wife Receive Their Slnny Friends. Captain and Mrs. Adam Jacobs, of Browns ville, celebrated the silver anniversary of their wedding yesterday.
