E, Jo- seph. +d Recent news received irom Pvt Charles Comley by his wife, finds him located somewhere in India, Mrs, Margaret Keatley is about to close up her home here for the bal- ance of the winter montis and ex- pects to spend some time with her sister, Mrs. Emily Miles of Miles- burg. Members of the Bridge Club of the community were entertained last Friday evening at the home of Mrs Newton Fisher. A delightful birthday ovarty was occasioned last Tuursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs, J. Blair Holtzworth, when her son, Peter Huey, celebrated his 12th birthday. A number of his boy friends were present and all enjoyed the evening wiich ended with refreshments con- sisting of ice cream, cake and candy. They all departed for their homes wishing Peter many more happy birthdays. Our local barber, Russell Reish, has re-located himself in the rooms of the Holtzworth store, formerly the J. B. Stere store rooms. The rooms have been redecorated since the slight fire which they had in the barber hop prior to his moving out in the fall. Mrs. Janie Shelby, nee Janie Zah- niser, arrived home last week from Camp Shelby, Miss,, where she had been with her tiusband. She expects to spend some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zahniser of this place. The members of tiie Young Wom- en's Sunday school class of the Methodist church will be ontertain- ed Tuesday evening, January 23, at the home of Mrs, Lorraine Carver. The “Penny Banks” which they have | had for some time, will be turned in at this time. A good attendance Is desired. | Quarterly Meeting: The regular quarterly meeting of the Free Meth- odist church will be held over this weekend In the church here, Rev. D N. Thomas, the district elder, will have charge of all services beginning with Friday evening services here. The first offering and the pledges for the Cru- sade will be turned in at this time Service at 7:30 p. m, Let us honor our boys in the service by being present at this meeting, they are sacrificing a lot for us, we should give this time in their honor | Our community was again covered with a clean white blanket of snow Monday afternoon and Tuesday Seems we don't any more than get one snow shoveled from our streets and driveways until another one is sent down. Our borough is In pretty good shape thus far on taxes, although there are a few outstand- ing which should be in have not as MILESBURG Mrs. Willlam Waker, who has been seriously ill, has been discharg- ed from the Philipsburg State Hos- pital where she bad been undergo- ing treatment, and is now at the home of her mother at Tyrone. Re- ports from the home are to the ef- fect that she is slowly recovering. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm H. Hall recently received a letter and a sou- venir from their son, Malcolm, who is In the armed forces in Belgium The letter was doubly welcome be- cause it was writlenr on December 28 and indicates that he apparently was safe after the German break- through in Belgium. The souvenir is a large pipe, of the type popular in Belgium Leland Lutz, S-1c¢, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lutz here. Seaman Lutz has just returned from 14 months | of service with the Sea-Bees in the South Pacific. He took part in the battle of Tarawa and in other en-| gagements Howard Ort, S-l1¢, is here for a brief visit with his mother, Mrs Nancy Ort and family, Seaman Ort saw action in France and Italy and also was in South America for a time. Sgt. Lyle Hastings, who is in the Air Force, is spending a short fur- lough with his father, Chester Hast- | ings, and family William Davidson, Baker 2¢, who served 21 months in Italy and Sic- | ily, is spending a leave with his father, Plummer Davidson Flight Officer Kenneth Watson is spending a few days with his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Watson here Carl Sents, MM-3¢, who recently returned from France, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sents at Curtin Pvt. Leitzell - BN a A, SCOUTS ATTEND SPECIAL MEETING IN BELLEFONTE Scouts from the Bellefonte area, including those from Pleasant Gap and Milesburg, met at the Logan Fire Hall on East Howard street, Friday night for an entertainment sponsored by the troop of which Raymond Ammerman is leader The program was in charge of Le- roy D. Loy, of Bellefonte, and en- tertainment included the showing of motion pictures with equipment and an operator from the West Penn {Power Company.
