Mrs. Priscilla Fye, of Moshan-
non, while in Bellefonte Monday,
found time to visit our office. We
were surprised to learn that this was
her first visit to Bellefonte in about
a year
Corp. James Edward Whittaker
has returned to his duties at Newport
News, Va, after spending a ten-day
furlough with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Whittaker, of West
Linn street
Miss Mary Beezer. of East Bish-
op street, who had been visiting her
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Londo, at Green Bay,
Wis, is now in Wilkinsburg with
her aunts, Mrs. J. F. Jones and Mrs
C. G. Spicher
-Mrs. Mary Sager and Mrs. Anna
Roff, both of Halfmoon Terrace, last
Thursday went to North Carolina
for a brief visit with their grandson

camp there. They also visited Sgt
Sager's wife and child who reside
near the camp

turned to thir home in Bellefonte,
Friday. fom a visit in Niagara Falls,
N.Y. While there they accompanied

and Mrs. William Barker on a mo-
tor trip to Buffalo, where they board
ed a hoat for a cruise to Crystal
Beach Canada.
Mrs. Sarah Smith, and William
Hockenberry and son, returned to
their homes in Bellefonte, Saturday,
from a week's motor trip to Niagara
Falls, where they were guests of Mrs
Smith's daughter, Beulah Smith,
and to Stroudsburg, where they were
guests of another sister of Mrs
Smith, Mrs. Miles Decker
Joseph Gherrity, aged 18, son of
Walter Gherrity, of South Spring
street, Monday enlisted in the U. 8
Navy and has been assigned to the
Great Lakes Naval Training Center
for preliminary training. Gherrity
was a member of the class which was
graduated from the Bellefonte High
School last June.
~The Misses Harriet Thompson,
Zoe Henry, Jean McKinley and Isa-
bel Sager, all of Bellefonte, returned
home Tuesday from a four days’ trip
to Philadelphia. Miss Thompson,
Miss Henry and Miss McKinley are
employes of the Titan Metal Com-
pany. while Miss Sager is employed
at Brown's Boot Shop

street, who expected to leave during
the weekend for San Diego, Cal, for
a visit with Lt Frank Krumka, of
the U. 8. Navy, cancelled her plans
upon receiving word that Lt. Krumka
is being transferred to another post

Byrd became well known and well
liked throughout this area.

and Mrs. George Love and Wendell
Crain, all of Altoona. called at the
Ira Sprankle home on Pine street
on Sunday to visit with Mrs. William
Sprankle of Coleville, who was strick-
en ill while visiting with her son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs,
Ira Sprankle. Mrs. Sprankle’s con-
dition is reported to be fair.
— Calvin Smith, of Tulsa, Okla-
homa, spent the weekend with his
father, J. Prank Smith, of the Pet-
rikin Hall apartments, and with his
brothers, Swengel, John and Charles
8mith, all of Bellefonte, and with
his sister, Mrs. Prank P. Geary, at
Centre Hall. Mr. Smith had been
in New York City on a business mis-
sion and he returned there at the

the time in a cottage along a lake

isters spent much of their time ang-
ling for Great Northern Pike and
both were quite succesful. The lar-
gest fish caught by Rev. Jacobs
weighed six pounds and measured
30 inches in length. Rev. Stabler
caught one that weighed nearly 14
pounds and was 37 inches long. On
Friday, Rev. and Mrs. Jacobs went
to Carlisle to spend ten days or two
| weeks with Mrs. Jacobs’ brother-in-
