The complete loss of tires would
not be such a severe blow as most
of us believe it might be, according
to a recent Public Opinion Survey
The study revealed that nearly one-
third of all persons who ride auto-
mobiles to work live less than two
miles from their place of employ-
ment. Furthermore, if all automo-
biles, buses, trolleys, subways, trains
and other means of transportation
ceased, seven out of every ten per-
sons, (70 per cent) including farm-
ers, could get to work if they were
willing to walk two miles or less
The remaining 30 per cent, however,
live such long distances from their
work that the average for the nation
is 4 miles, excluding farmers, most
of whom reside on their farms
