R. G. Forsburg, of Bishop street, left
Saturday for Watervaleit, New York,
where he has accepted a position
with the United States Arsenal as
a toolmaker.
—Miss Helen Weaver, of Belle-
fonte, R. D., who was injured in an
auto accident at Milesburg, January
10, returned to her position at Wil-
liamsport, Sunday. Miss Weaver is
employed in the office of the Ed-
wards Motor Transit Co.
—-John Shope, son of Mr. and Mrs.
W.R. Shope of South Thomas street,
who for several months had been
employed in Niagara Falls, returned
to Bellefonte during the weekend
and has accepted a position in the
Titan Metal Company plant.
—L. Cy Pownell, until recently
employed as a salesman for the
County Chevrolet Company here,
spent the weekend with his family
on South Allegheny street. For some
weeks Mr. Pownell has been em-
ployed as a mechanic at the Mid.
dletown airport.
—Mr, and Mrs. James Gunsalus,
of Phoenix avenue, and their dau-
ghter and grandson, Mrs. Philip
Bickett and son Tommy, of South
Water street, spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Gunsallus® son,
John, in Baltimore, Md, where he
is employed.
Mr, and Mrs. Walter Zahnizer,
of Unionville, are receiving congra-
tuiations on the birth of a daughter,
born FPriday at the Centre County
Hospital. Mr. Zahnizer, Bi-County
Commander of the American Legion,
was formerly Commander of Brooks-
Doll Past, Bellefonte.
~-Mrs, Charles Rockey, of North
Penn street, and Mrs. Ruth Rote, of
South Allegheny street, Monday, de-
parted for Canton, Ohio, to attend
; , Tuesday, of Mrs. Rock-
€y's. sister-in-law, Mrs. William H.
Miller. Mrs. Miller was instantly
killed Saturday when she was struck
hy ‘a car in downtown Canton. Her
daughter and granddaughter, injur-
ed in the same accident, are under-
going treatment in a Canton hospi-
tal’
William Jenkins, on Friday, re-
turned - to his home in the Petrikin
Hull, ‘West High street, from “the
Centre County Hospitdl where he has
been a surgical patient for several
weeks. Mr. Jenkins is 6 son of Mr,
and Mrs. William H, Jenkins, also
of “West High street. Although he
is recuperating rapidly, no time has
been fixed for his return to his du-
ties in the offices of the Department
of Public “Assistance, in the Penn
Belle Hotel building.
Persons who break glass or throw
tire-destroying materials on the
streets and highways are “little bet-
ter than tire thieves, now regarded
as public enemies,” an automobile
club official said recently. “With
new. tires and retreads drastically
ratiohed, the motorist who suffers
the loss of tires and tubes by run-
ning over glass, nails or other sharp
substances is practically forced off
the highways,” he said. “The ser-
jousness of the situation cannot be
over-emphasized.”
Lewis Q. Fawcett, of Zion, pro-
prietor of the Duteh Dairy store on
South Allegheny street, Bellefonte,
escaped injury but his car was dam-
aged to the extent of about $60 at
945 o'clock Monday night when the
machine skidded on the Nittany
Valley road near the Fishing Creek
school house, and crashed into a
guard post and power pole before
coming to rest near the edge of one
of the abandoned ore pits along the
highway, Fawcett was alone at the
fime he was on his way to Belle.

cuperating from an operation she
underwent several weeks ago at the
Centre County hospital here
Mr. and Mrs. Horace J. Hart-
ranft, of East Linn street, on Priday,
motored to Belleville, N. J.. where on
Saturday they attended the funeral
of Dr. Scott M. Huff, of that com-
munity, former well known Belle
fonte and Milesburg physician. Dr.
Huff was a brother of the late Mrs
Frank Crawford, of Bellefonte. The

some weeks has been serving as a
substittite teacher in the Pine Grove
Mills schools, was admitted to the
Centre County Hospital early Friday
morning and immediately underwent
an emergency operation for appen-
dicitus. Latest reports from the hos-
pital are to the effect that she is
recovering nicely, Mrs Watson is
the former Dorothy Bloom, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George Bloom of
near Shiloh.
~Mrs. Edward Miller, the former
Virginia McClellan, of the Petrikin
apartments, West High street, on
March 1 resigned her position as
deputy in the offices of Prothonotary
Bond C. White, and her place is
being taken by Miss Hilda Corman,
who has been serving as a clerk in
the office for some weeks, Miss Cor-
man has moved from Valley View
into an apartment in the Beezer
house on East Bishop street vacated
some time ago by Mr. and Mrs.

of mineral industries at Penn State
for the first semister are two Belle-

has been on the honor roll each sem-
ister since the beginning of his fresh-
