—Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Haagen
of 310 Burke street, Jersey Shore,
announce the birth of a daughter,
born Friday, Dec. 12. She is the sec-
ond child and second daughter and
has been named Dolores Ann. Mr
Haagen is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Haagan of Bellefonte, R. D. 3.
—Clark Charles, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Charles, of West Tigh
street, who for the past two months
has held an excellent position with
an industrial firm in Niagara Falls,
resigned lest week and enlisted in
the U. 8. Marine Corps. He has reen
sent to Parris Island, South Caro-
lina, to undergo preliminary train-
ing

Camp Shelby, Miss. arrived in Belle-
fonte Sunday for a Chiistmas visit
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl
E. Kusse and family at their nome
on West Linn streel. Kusse is not
scheduled to report back In camp
until December 28
Miss Dorothy Wilkinson, of
North 8pring sireet, {« making plan
to be married to Joseph Creedon, of
Connellsville day after Christ-
mas. She will have no attendants
and will be married away from
home. After a wedding trip during
Christmas week she will returm to
her parents home on Neyth Spring
street to complele the school year

La. son of the late Michael Fazel
of Bellefonte, has been promoted by
the Oil Well Supply Co. by whom
he has been employed sinee his grad-
uation from Penn State 1830
“Mike” has been transferred to
Houston, Texas where he is now in
charge of a large sale territory. He
is a brother of Joseph Hazel and
rs. Charles P. M. Smith of Blanch-
ard street, and is a nephew of Mrs.

—Al Mayer, for the past three
months employed by the Glenn L
Martin Company in Baltimore, Md
arrived in Bellefonte, Monday, for
a few days’ visit with his wife and
family at their home at Roopsburg
On Saturday Mr. Mayer underwent
an operation at the Memoria] Hos-
pital, Baltimore, during which a cyst
was removed from the back of his
head, and as a result his head is
swathed in bandages. Despite the
operation he worked the following
day

of which in Hawali has been con-
firmed by the Navy Department,
was Eugene Rowe, Jr, 21. of 11 E
Collingswood avenue, Oskiyn, N. J,
nephew of Mr. and Mrs. William
Rowe, of North Allegheny street,
Bellefonte. Young Rowe is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rowe. His
mother was reported to be near col-
lapse on hearing of the sinking of
her son’s ship. “We have heard no
word,” she sald. “All we can do is
hope.”
—Peliefonte Women of the Moose
held a Christmas party Monday eve-
ning at the Moose home on North
Spring street. The party was well at-
tended and each guest brought some
gift for the Mcose Kiddies’ home at
Mooseheart, and the old folks’ home
at Moosehaven A regular meeting
of the Women of the Moose was held
last week when officers received
their certificates and plans were
made for the program for the com-
ing year. Mrs, Mary Sager, commit
tee chairman, was in charge of a
portion of the business session.

Walter H. Adams, former mana-
ger of the Centre County Thrift
Company, arrived in Bellefonte Sun-
day night from Ft. Eustis, Va., and
returned to that camp yesterday to
begin a period of training with the
United States Army. Mrs. Adams
and daughter, Mary Ann, expect to
vacate their home on East Curtin
street and will go to Mt. Pleasant
to be with Mrs. Adams’ parents un-
til Mr. Adams’ period of service is
ended.
—Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Widdowson,
of North Allegheny street, have de-
vised a new plan for the Christmas
season and will put the plan into
operation Saturday night. A Christ.
mas tree will be erected on the lawn
in front of the Widdowson ome
and on the tree will be hupg pop-
corn balls. The youngsters of the
town are invited to help themselves
to the pop-corn balls. 80 If you see
a couple of riot squads heading out

there'll be no great cause for alarm.
Things will quiet down after the
popcorn balls are gone.

ley and Mrs. Helen Carner, who
were the co-hostesses, Santa Claus
was also there with a gift for every
member of the party.

Mrs, William Bryant, of Prosser-
town, has received word that her
two sons with the U 8 Army in
Hawaii are safe. William J. Bryant,
who is at Hickam Pleld which was
heavily bombed by the Japanese on
Sunday, sent this cablegram to his
mother: “I am safe. Merry Christ-
mas. Bill.” The message was tele-
phoned here from Huntingdon. The

Shafter, within sight of Hickam
Pield, early this week cablegrammed
his mother briefly, “Am fine, Jim.”
—Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Harter,
of State College. entertained at a
birthday dinner Sunday in honor of

Harter of Howard it being her 74th
birthday, also their nephew, Glenn
Walizer, Jr. who celebrated his 8th

mondville, Texas, who recently came
north to Washington, D. C. on a
business mission, made a brief visit
